Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has tabled a bill in the state Assembly to raise a separate police force just to protect her statues and memorials. Even though construction work at Mayawati's dream memorials have come to a grinding halt after a recent Supreme Court order, but her passion for the monuments has not diminished. After building memorials and statues worth Rs 6,000 crore, the UP Chief Minister now wants to raise a separate police force to protect them. The UP government has already introduced a bill in the Assembly that proposes a force lead by a DGP rank officer and consists of more than 1,000 personnel. The force will be initially allocated Rs 53 crore and will have an annual budget of Rs 10 crore rupee. However, the Opposition is up in the arms "Basic facilities are missing in the state but Mayawati is crores on memorials. The government cannot protect common man but is trying have a separate force for providing security for statues," says Samajwadi Party leader Ambika Chowdhary. "We will protest this move. The move to create a separate force will put additional burden on the state," adds Congress leader Promod Tiwari. Besides statues and memorials of Bahujan Samaj Party icons, the force would also guard the new sprawling bungalow Mayawati has constructed in Lucknow. During her last term as the chief minister in 2003 Mayawati had tried to raise a similar force by an administrative order. But her arch rival and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav struck down the order as soon as he came to power. But if a bill is passed by the state legislature, it cannot be reversed easily.

Lurker, 5-7 more years of the direction and speed UP and Bihar are heading at present and UP will overtake Bihar as the state which ranks at the bottom of pretty much everything. The Mayawatis, Mualayams, Kalyans, and Rajnaths are making people in UP miss the days of ND Tiwari and Vir Bahadur Singh, if you ever thought that was a possibility. Whatever, one might say about Bihar but it's difficult to fault Nitish Kumar's intentions at least, and he is getting things done in the right direction. UP is completely bereft of any leadership and not a single state politician I can think of wants even an iota of good done for the state. It's a race to hoard up the coffers. And to think that the state started off under a statesman like Govind Ballabh Pant after independence. To borrow your terminology from above, I have little doubt at the moment that UP will become the first completely developed state in the country.

I truly hope not. I mean I surely want Bihar to develop as best as we can but UP is kind of the glue that holds India intact in many ways. The best analogy I could think of would be the dialgue 10 seconds from Interval in Satya when Wakil Mule(Makrand Deshpande) tells Bhiku Mhatre(Manoj Vajpayee) - Tu apne dhandhe ko nahin jaanta Bhiku, ek gaya to sab jaayenge. UP is that ek in question.

The size and importance that you refer to is one of the major reasons behind the downfall. There are 80 Lok Sabha seats at stake and a good showing puts a party in a commanding position at the Center. The state should be broken down into 3 with none of them contributing more than 30 seats towards the center. It will surely help with not only the administrative aspects but move beyond just using UP as a huge vote bank in Center politics. As things stand and with the kind of politicians the state has, I see little hope.

I am happy Yudhishitra did not have the same mindset as you Bhai saab. Remember how in Mahabharta when the Pandavs come to this lake and start drinking water without answering questions? They all die unexplainablytill the eldest brother arrives. Yudhishtira answers them all and gets his brother back to life. Imagine Yudhishtira answering the questions with questions, like you always do. Indeed agar yahi kaam Arjuna ne bhi kiya hota to shayad Geeta likhi hi nahin jaati :haha: kya bandhu RSS ke hoke bhi yeh sab bhool jaate hain aap.

Why isnt the Allahabad High court/Supreme court not stopping this insanity?
Umm, perhaps the same reason why the Maha govt/Court not stopping Thackeray's f.ked up demands ?
