He had not played international cricket since 2008 when he was included in the squad for the tour of Sri Lanka in 2010, but grabbed the opportunity, scoring a half-century in the second Test of the rain-hit series, and was included in the World Cup squad. In the ODI series against Sri Lanka, played in January 2011 after being rescheduled, Baugh got scores of 28 not out and 49, giving notice of the threat he poses as an aggressive lower-order batsman. "I see every game as a major opportunity to make a contribution to the team and to West Indies cricket," Baugh said. "I am really focussed on the job and I am making strides forward. Since I returned to the team unit I have a more positive outlook on my game." With no other specialist wicketkeeper in West Indies' fifteen for the World Cup, Baugh is almost sure to be a part of the starting XI, a situation that didn't seem likely three months ago. West Indies appeared to be grooming young wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin, but after he failed to improve his form with the bat - he averaged 17.66 in 14 ODIs in 2010 - the 28-year-old Baugh, who was an important member of Jamaica's winning side in the 2009-10 Regional Four-Day Competition, was called up. Baugh says he has made some changes to his game since he last turned out for West Indies in 2008. "I have made a few changes to my approach and the way I do things. I try not to put too much pressure on myself and not burden myself with too much. I look to go out and play my natural game and stick to the team plans. "I am in pretty good form and I will be looking to take that form in to the World Cup. I know what is required of me behind the stumps and with the bat, and I am clear in my mind how to go about doing the job." West Indies go in to the World Cup having slipped to No. 9 in the ICC one-day rankings and have not beaten a Test side in an ODI since June 2009. They play two warm-up games, against Kenya on February 12 and Sri Lanka on February 15, before their first match of the tournament, against South Africa on February 24.
Sir john Posted September 23, 2011 Author Posted September 23, 2011 Ramdin back for Bangladesh tour Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Dwayne Bravo do not feature in the West Indies Test and ODI squads for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. Wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin has been recalled to both squads, while offspinner Shane Shillingford, who underwent remedial work on an action that was deemed illegal last year, has made the Test side. Gayle has not played for West Indies since the 2011 World Cup, following a breakdown in his relationship with the West Indies board. He chose to participate in the IPL in April, after being left out of a training camp ahead of the home series against Pakistan. In a hard-hitting interview with KLAS Sports, he had questioned his treatment by members of the board, including chief executive Ernest Hilaire, and the coach Ottis Gibson, after he picked up an injury during the World Cup. Since then, Gayle had a series of discussions with the board, including a one-on-one with Hilaire on August 23. Though the discussion was reported to be "frank and excellent", Gayle recently revealed that the stalemate was set to continue since he had refused to apologise to Gibson for statements made during the radio interview. "The outstanding matter relating to Chris Gayle's availability and selection remains unresolved," the board's release read. "The WICB management will submit a report to the board of directors after which a conclusive statement will be made." Bravo was not picked though he was considered for selection, while Sarwan was left out due to injury. Sarwan had been recalled for the home series against Pakistan and India, and looked in good touch during the India ODIs. He struggled in the Test series that followed, though, and missed the final match. Shivnarine Chanderpaul retained his spot in the Test side following a match-saving effort in the Basseterre Test. Ramdin's return meant there was no place for Carlton Baugh in the ODI set-up, though Baugh was included in the Test side. Openers Kieran Powell and Kraigg Brathwaite, who made their Test debuts in the home season, also found places in the touring party, while Barbados allrounder Carlos Brathwaite got a maiden call-up to the ODI side. The tour begins on October 7 with the first of two warm-up matches, followed by a solitary Twenty20, three ODIs and two Tests. Darren Sammy will continue to lead the side. Sir john Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 Baugh's costly fumble issed stumping of the day Michael Hussey and James Pattinson were still getting their partnership established when Hussey advanced to Shane Shillingford and was beaten in flight and turn. A wicket at this juncture would have exposed a longer than usual Australian tail to Shillingford's spin and a still newish ball, leaving the hosts with a chance of restricting the visitors to less than 250. However Carlton Baugh's gloves had let him down frequently across the innings, and he had already dropped Hussey off Shillingford late on day one. So there was disappointment but no great surprise among the slim Monday crowd of locals when Baugh fumbled his take for long enough to allow Hussey to lunge back into his crease.
