Guest Gunner Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Gary, someone forgot to forward the memo to UV. :phehehe:
Fontaine Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Why is Gary at fault? There is definitely a break down in communication over fitness but it's not in the international team, it's within the domestic league, young/fringe players who aren't taught about international level fitness early and often enough. It's the responsibility of the BCCI that earns cold hard cash to the tune of millions to pump some of that money back into the domestic/fitness infrastructure. County Cricket in England always has top level facilities and fitness coaches yet they barely have enough money but they do have standards. The BCCI needs to learn from that.

Chandan Posted April 3, 2010 Author Posted April 3, 2010 Painful wrist keeps Yuvraj out of practice Kings XI Punjab coach Tom Moody said Yuvraj Singh, selected in the Indian team for the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies still has a slight bit of pain on his right wrist and there was an opportunity on Sunday and Monday to rest in preparation for the match against Mumbai Indians. Yuvraj was not present at the team’s training and practice session at the Brabourne Stadium on Monday. S. Sreesanth has been dropped from the squad for the match against MI. So why on earth is Yuvraj continuing to play when he is far from fit? He was rested from tests and ODIs ue to this injury but can't be rested from IPL even at the cost of losing him forever? Why? And guys, shouldn't our selectors start looking for the #6 batsman in tests? I suppose, Kohli should be blooded in our next test series and Yuvraj should be dropped from all formats of international cricket till he regains full fitness. Your view? Yuvraj said a day back : “I’m disgusted and horrified that a news reporter can stoop down to such a level. In all my career I haven’t seen such a disgusting piece of news. Media has no right to fabricate stories, they just want eyeballs. To come out of injury is not easy and I’ve had three in a row and I hope to bounce back soon. I always try to give my best no matter what the circumstance and right now I’m struggling with my form. It happens to every player,†he said on Twitter. Yes, coming out of injury isn't easy, but has he come out of injury? I think he is still injured and despite having extra energy, he looked too slow in the field, even yesterday, from what I heard. And what about Dhoni? Has his injury healed? Gambhir seems to be struggling as well. And where is Nehra?
Chandan Posted April 6, 2010 Author Posted April 6, 2010 Just heard that Zaheer is unfit now. What happened to him? Any idea? Just heard that Zaheer is unfit now. What happened to him? Any idea? Apparently it isn't a major injury. Zaheer opts out Zaheer Khan was ruled out of the match owing to a swelling on his left knee. He picked it during their last match against the Deccan Chargers but is expected for their match against Kings XI Punjab on the April 9 at Mohali. It scarcely needs adding that Zaheer is an important cog in the wheel of the Indian cricket team that is scheduled to take part in the T20 World Cup in West Indies in April-May. He missed the last edition of the tournament in England because of a shoulder injury that he suffered in the IPL’s second edition in South Africa that preceded the tournament. But according to sources, it is not a major injury. One hopes it is a precautionary measure that the Mumbai Indians management has taken. One can only hope that he is okay. I'm not yet convinced at Dhoni's fitness and Nehra hasn't even made a appearance till now.
thevortex Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Chandan - Yuvraj is unfit, at so many different levels. But what are we going to do about it? Dhoni WILL NOT drop Yuvraj. Thats the way it goes. Plus he will do everything to shield him and use him as a shock weapon at an opportune time for the left hander. I have never understood that bit of play by Dhoni. Gambhir looks fit. I heard that Dhoni might not play yesterday. But he ultimately played. Dont know what the injury scene is with him though.

I really cannot understand this obsession with blaming the captain for selections on a regular basis - perhaps it's easier to blame one person than 5? If Yuvraj is unfit and needs to be dropped the call must be made by the selection committee, which is primarily responsible for assessing the form, fitness, and commitment of players.

Come on, Outisder, Dhoni is stubborn if nothing else. And the way he conserves Yuvraj may be beneficial for the player but does not necessarily make sense for the team given that this is a guy who has been with the squad for more than a decade now! Yuvraj needed to stand up and make himself counted a long time back.
Chandan Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 Well, So Sehwag is out of T20 WC? How grave is the injury? CI says 3 weeks rest but is that all that is keeping him away from T20WC? Was he forced to play through the injury? How many such players are doing so? How much damage has IPL done? Now even the injury reports are not coming out.

Chandan, in all fairness IPL has not caused as much injury damage to the Indian team this as has been made out in this thread. Sehwag is the only casualty and we dont even know the nature and cause of his injury; he might have slipped while having a shower for all we know! The one team that was not represented in the IPL is having greater injury woes then us - Pakistan. I am somewhat surprised by the tendency of some people to blame the IPL for all sins.

Sorry Abhinav, but I'm sure that many are forced to play through injuries and this will doom India as it did last year with IPL, BCCI, selectors everyone blaming it on poor performance of player. What do you have to say about Yuvraj who has been forced to play despite being unfit and where is the guarantee that he has recovered fully? What do uou have to say here: Moody blames it on Yuvraj’s lack of fitness Kings XI Punjab coach Tom Moody claimed that Yuvraj Singh was not fully fit in the IPL III and that has contributed to his side’s poor show in the tournament. Moody attributed his side’s bottom finish in the IPL III to injury to key bowlers like Brett Lee and lack of full fitness of Yuvraj. The main player of the team Yuvraj Singh also has not recovered fully from wrist injury,†said Moody after his side’s six-wicket loss to Chennai Super Kings in their last league match here.

As far as Yuvraj is concerned, I don't think he was playing through a pain barrier. He clearly appeared to be out of shape and short of practice as he had only picked up a bat some 3 or 4 days before the IPL began. Veeru played all 14 games for DD. I cant believe that he was forced to play through the entire tournament as well. The guy fielded through out and never asked for a substitute in the field or a runner. However, even if we do take your point that players either hide injuries or are forced to play through them then I'd blame individuals rather than the tournament. Professional sport is played across the world, the same set of players represent both franchises and their national teams and are better for it.

Chandan Posted April 22, 2010 Author Posted April 22, 2010 Now Tendulkar injres his hand, splitting the webbing of the right hand and getting 5 stitches for it. Tendulkar's hand injury to be assessed: Zaheer Mumbai: The condition of Mumbai Indians captain Sachin Tendulkar`s hand injury would be assessed in a couple of days and a call taken whether he will play in the April 25 IPL final or not, pacer Zaheer Khan said. "I did not have a chance to talk to Sachin in dressing room because everyone was celebrating by jumping up and down but (coach) Robin (Singh) said that the injury needed five stitches and a call will be taken on his playing (in the final) in two days` time," said Zaheer at the post-match press-conference after his side thumped Bangalore by 35 runs to storm into their maiden IPL final here. Tendulkar suffered a right hand webbing split while taking a dropped catch of Dravid in the fourth over and he did not field after that during Bangalore`s run chase. Zaheer said Tendulkar`s injury just three days before his 37th birthday was a "bit of worry". "It (Tendulkar`s injury) is a bit of a worry. We hope and all Mumbai Indians fans hope that he can play in the final. We would take a call in a couple of days," he said. ------------------------------- Well, split webbing doesn't heal in two days and we had seen that in VVS Laxman's case when he got his webbing split at Chittagong. Hope we have no more injury reports from other 3 matches. As far as Yuvraj is concerned, I don't think he was playing through a pain barrier. He clearly appeared to be out of shape and short of practice as he had only picked up a bat some 3 or 4 days before the IPL began. Veeru played all 14 games for DD. Professional sport is played across the world, the same set of players represent both franchises and their national teams and are better for it. I'll take Moody's words above yours anyday. Were you working with Yuvraj with know exactly what was he suffering from? As for Veeru, isn't it common sense that if he batted and fielded in all the 14 innings, and then out of the blue the news comes that he is ruled out with a shoulder injury, he would have been playing few of these innings with the injury? The way his batting tapered off towards the end of IPL also points to that. If the franchise wants a star player to play in all the matches, how and why should you blame that individual player? Professional sport have many rules to follow and how freely IPL has broken all the rules to suit itself for everyone to see.
