arey i dont think u all listened to the commentary gavaskar himself said that he said to tendulkar that he would be bowing down to him the next time he met as soon as sachin hit 200.. and this was the first they both met after sachin hit 200 so he bowed down... nothing idiotic or stupid... its just a genius`s way of showing respect to other genius of the same game

At least in Hindu traditions, you bow down to supreme ( god ) or elders or Gurus. I dont think any one bows down to younger as a mark of respect.
