( obviously excluding the matches where he missed during his career span). %s sorted in descending manner. Cricinfo has it only innings wise. WOuld really appreciate mate. Thanks in advance.

Cut off in this case as well as above case be 50 matches. I think answer to these 2 queries will give a good insight into how a batsman has dominated.

Well, I don't think so. 1) the first stat will give an indication of who holds maximum value to his own side. 2) the second stat will give an indication of who has dominated the most among batsman across either side in the most comparable manner. My point is that a high covariance between 1 and 2 , will mean that this stat will have alot of significance. If we happen to get a batsmen who tops list #2, and his sides bowling historically poor than most opponents, it will confirm that he is inarguably a standout.

I am asking for: 1) Runs scored by a batsman as % of runs scored in the entire match ( including both the teams) throughout the entire career of the batsman. For ex: If SRT has scored 13000 test runs in his career and in the 166 matches that he has been involved the total runs scored ( in all the 4 innings of the matches that he has played ) is 200,000. SRT's contribution would would be 6.5% .

patriot Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 Dhondy, As an example see below for a single series: http://stats.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/batting/most_runs_career.html?id=443;type=series Hayden top scorer of the series ( 549 runs) would obviously have the highest % of total runs ( both the teams, all the 4 innings) scored in the entire series. A little bit more than VVS ( 503) . Now the Aussie attack was far more potent than India's one man attack . Therefore despite VVS's slightly lower % contribution , he is the standout. The fact that VVS's contribution % / his sides total runs is > Hayden's % contribution towards his side , would only put it more in VVS's favour. I feel a similar analysis done for an entire career of a batter ( normalized with how his teams bowling attack compared with others during his playing career) would give an indication of the most dominant batsman. If a batmans is found at # 2 in such an analysis by a small margin and his side's attack is much lesser than player who is # 1 in such an analysis. He can be considered better than the guy who is ranked # 1.

I think the total there is the batsman's runs as % of only his team's total runs over the span of his entire playing career, in matches where he is involved. Please, can you provide batsman's runs as % of both the teams total runs in matches involving the playing career of the batter
