Your ethnicity should have no bearing on how ou feel about this. Practising certain cultural/religious events doesn't harm anyone. That seems perfectly fine to me but it should not come at the cost of integration. That was also the local Britishers' point. Even 10 years might be acceptable but after residing for 30-40 years and after getting a citizenship of that country I agree that they should consider that place as their homeland. Even if not them but they should let their children follow the local culture and support their native country. Especially for children who were born there as residents of that country. Do you remember the name of the documenntary...Sounds interesting... Regarding the discussion, I kind of see myself confused sometimes.. I came here in Canada at the age of 16... All of sudden, it changed from 'Oye' to 'Eh'.... as Goose mentioned, I have more of a split personality... 'Every day we wake up with one one identity, go to work/classes switch to another identity, socialize with friends and switch again'... so ya, there are times it gets really confusing whether I am actually a Indian or Canadian...I dont drink but I enjoy the company of drinkers and sit in pub more often..I go to Mandir on Tuesdays and pray everyday but stilll think n call myself athiest like typical Canadian......I love India but I also hate Barney when he makes fun of Canada in HIMYM :--D.... I love cricket but I also love and enjoy Ice Hockey... so ya, I wont blame NRI specially when they come at early age..but we Indians are good in adopting to new culture yet preserving good parts of Indian culture.... I dont remember.. The kids should decide themselves especially if they were born in that country. If they were born in India then I can still understand following our culture and supporting India. But they were born there, raised there and that is their homeland according to me. If I take the example of a foreigner couple coming to India, taking citizenship and taking all benefits from India and then if they force their children (born on Indian soil) to support their own country then I for one would be pissed off as an Indian. So, I could relate to the localites there in the documentary. They are right to be pissed off somewhat after they are ruled by someone who does not consider herself a proper Britisher. If Sonia Gandhi kept her allegience to Italy and followed Italian culture due to her roots then most of us would have been pissed off like anything.
