Manchester United Striker Wayne Rooney Out For Two To Four Weeks With A Sprained Ankle - Report Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has suffered a sprained ankle that will keep him out for between two and four weeks, Sky Sports sources have revealed. The England striker went down in agony towards the end of the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday, and left the Allianz Arena later in the evening walking with the aid of crutches and a protective cast on his right foot. If the initial diagnosis is correct, he will certainly miss United's vital Premier League clash with Chelsea on Saturday, and the second leg against the German club next Wednesday. But if the injury does keep Rooney out only for two weeks, he may be available for his side's derby fixture with Manchester City on April 17. But the news will be a relief to Fabio Capello and England, as these early reports indicate the 24-year-old will not miss the World Cup in South Africa this summer. Last night Bayern's manager, Louis van Gaal, was worried for United after the loss of their talisman. "He is their most important player and if you looked at United's statistics you would see their second highest scorer had been their opponents. They had 11 own goals. That's how important Rooney is," the Dutchman said. But Rooney's teammates are confident they can cope without their leading scorer. "It can happen in the season," goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar said of Rooney's injury after the game. "You always want your best players available but we know the players coming in can also do a good job." source: http://is.gd/b97Er

England fans breathed a sigh of relief on Wednesday night as Wayne Rooney’s World Cup was put back on track. But Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was left seething after learning that his star striker is out for the next crucial month of the domestic and European campaigns. It means Ferguson will have to find a way to beat Bayern Munich and then get through the Champions League semi-final as well without Rooney to keep alive his European Cup dream. And he will also have to plot a route past Chelsea this weekend in the game which will go a long way to deciding if United can become the first club to win four consecutive Premier League titles. But England boss Fabio Capello’s worst nightmares were eased as it emerged the Old Trafford star should be back fit by the end of April. Capello, who left Munich’s Allianz Arena before the end of Tuesday’s game, was placed on red alert as news of Rooney’s ankle injury began to filter through. The Italian, however, was relieved to be told that Rooney’s injury is not as severe as initially feared. Rooney’s right ankle was badly swollen with the player diagnosed as having a third degree sprain which caused ligament damage. The full extent of the problem was detected by an MRI scan at Whalley Range Hospital which Rooney underwent soon after flying back to Manchester United on Wednesday. And while United were doing everything in their power to keep details under wraps, it emerged that Rooney will be out of action for three to four weeks. Although United’s medical team, led by club doctor Steve McNally and fitness coach Tony Strudwick, are hopeful Rooney could be back playing within three weeks, they have no intention of rushing his recovery. The loss of the 34-goal talisman of Sir Alex Ferguson’s side is a potentially devastating blow for the month that could determine the fate of United’s season. Rooney will miss Saturday’s pivotal clash with Chelsea on Saturday and probably three other Premier League fixtures, the trip to Blackburn, the Manchester derby at Eastlands and then the April 24 home game with Spurs. He has also been ruled out of next Wednesday’s second leg against Bayern Munich, when United have to claw back their 2-1 deficit against a club they have only ever beaten once before, and would also miss the first, home, leg of the semi-final against Lyons or Bordeaux if United do go through.

Guest Hiten.

But I do agree that there is not competition to the big 4 in EPL. Man *****y are a new inductee in boasting a rich ass owner, who can compete against these giants. Bundesliga is very underrated and is far more competitive.

epl is very uncompetitive' date='rich teams are overspending and killing the league. Its not fun when 2 or 3 teams dominate the league.[/quote'] definitely not this season. any of the top 3 can win the league. any of the next 4 - now maybe 3, can reach the 4th position, any of the bottom 5 excl Portsmouth can get relegated.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was highly critical of the officials after watching his side lose 2-1 to Chelsea at Old Trafford. Joe Cole and Didier Drogba scored for the Londoners, with a late Federico Macheda strike threatening a late comeback, but the Ivorian's strike proved to be the winner despite appearing offside. The Blues now leap-frog the champions into first place at the summit of the Premier League, and Ferguson was disappointed with the display of his charges in the first half. "Very disappointing, we took too long to get going. Chelsea were the better team in the first half without a doubt but after that we did well and were unfortunate not to get something out of the game. We dominated that second period, and just didn't get there," Ferguson told Sky Sports. "Obviously at Old Trafford we always think that [we can get back into the game], and we always believe we can rescue it. Unfortunately not today." Didier Drogba's second half strike appeared offside, and Ferguson was critical of the failure of the linesman to spot the infringement. more

A linesman’s mistake gifted Manchester United an excuse for defeat to Chelsea, but a lack of star quality has crippled their bid for Premier League supremacy. This afternoon’s engaging 2-1 victory for the Londoners has swung the destiny of the title in their favour as they deservedly claimed the spoils. Didier Drogba’s goalscoring intervention proved the difference on the scoresheet, though an alarming gulf in class was the deciding factor on the pitch. Lightning refused to strike twice and this season Federico Macheda’s dramatic introduction couldn’t swing a failing championship bid in United’s favour once again. Played off their own pitch by Chelsea for large swathes of the game, the lethargic hosts were a distant second best. This deference to the buoyant away side was just as inexcusable as the assistant referee’s decision to allow Drogba’s goal. As offside calls go, it was an easy one. The Ivorian hung behind United’s centre-backs for his entire movement and no full-back was obstructing the linesman's view. Sir Alex Ferguson will rightly explode in anger about this, though he must reserve plenty of bile for his insipid charges. Today was the chance for the side to exorcise the demons from the dreadful display at Bayern Munich in midweek. Instead, they plumbed new depths against a Chelsea side full of hunger. Worryingly, this performance bore all the hallmarks of similar defeats in the reverse leg of this fixture and the loss at Anfield. Too often there has been no craft on show to pick the lock of a determined defence with or without Wayne Rooney. Last season, Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez were on hand to force the play. Now, the sight of veterans Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs stumbling to keep up with the hardly youthful Frank Lampard, Deco and Florent Malouda was damning. Their lack of lung power left Dimitar Berbatov an isolated figure swamped by the attentions of the opposing defence. A ‘plan B’ was again beyond them and no player in red looked capable of reproducing Joe Cole's delightful flick which brought the opener. United's Bulgarian striker performed, though he had no chance of succeeding without any support. Ferguson’s selection screamed of going back in to his shell after the loss to Bayern. Old hands looked incapable of providing any moment of inspiration no matter the increased possession enjoyed in the second half. No team has ever come out on top when they have lost seven times in a 38-game season and United will have to fight this to go in to the record books. Heart will be taken by the fact they are only two points behind, have an easier fixture list to look forward to than the Blues and Rooney is possibly only a fortnight away from fitness. An injection of youth and fresh ideas must occur now and in the summer. Macheda and Nani were both beacons of light in a dark day at the Theatre of Dreams. This weekend should have seen United’s grip on the league trophy weakened decisively. Frustratingly, all the signs of today’s weakness have been present since last summer.
