satyam1729 Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 This is yet another stupid post, we're talking about the WC, Gul's performances in the world cup not in the IPL. In IPL I Gul did get battered at times, but in both the WCs and in T20s overall his record is incredible. That is where it matters, on the big stage and not some domestic commercial festival. Gul does get pasted now and then, but in T20 cricket he stands head and shoulders above everyone else. Uthappa vs Umar Gul's yorkers, erm let me see, who do you think would win this battle? In fact anyoen vs Gul's inswinging yorkers, who would win? Albie Morkel, one of the cleanest strikers of a cricket ball in the world, could not get under a single Gul ball, Ross Taylor is another, could not get under a single Gul yorker. If he bowls 4 overs of relentless yorkers as we expect and know he can, they won't go for many more than 6 an over. In T20 WC also Gul was thrashed by Gambhir. You can make those yorkers full toss if you have brain:haha::giggle::hysterical:

You can make those yorkers full toss if you have brain:haha::giggle::hysterical: Well let's back this statement up with facts now, You say Gambhir thrashed him, for a boundary or a 6 maybe yeh he did. But Gull took 3 for 28 off his 4 overs that game, that is 7 per over in a T20 game. He kept the in form Yuvraj and Dhoni very quiet and got their wickets. If 3 for 28 is getting thrashed, then sure he did. But I think even the most biased person would say that Gul won his contest that day, even if Pakistan lost theirs.

Oh wait it was a warm up game so Pakistan did not take it seriously.Gul and Afridi have been destroyed by Gambhir many times.
vvvslaxman Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 This is yet another stupid post' date=' we're talking about the WC, Gul's performances in the world cup not in the IPL..[/quote'] Hello genius. You are the one who said nobody bowled in IPL like gul bowled in world cup. Bowling in IPL is not that easy. It is much harder than bowling in world cup. You never know which guy will smash you all over. Last year Abishek Nayar smashed 3 sixes off flintoff in one over that too in South Africa. Malinga has much much better variation than Gul. He is much much more dangerous even when batsman is not looking to score runs. Ever seen Steyn bowl in IPL. Only in dreams Gul can bowl such pacy venomous spells.
king2be98 Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Did you watch the warm up game in England? Oh wait it was a warm up game so Pakistan did not take it seriously.Gul and Afridi have been destroyed by Gambhir many times. That was the first game Pakistan had played in a long time if I recall correctly. It wasn't an official game as it had no bearing on the tournament, it was a warm up game nothing more. You might have taken it seriously, but I had to search for it on cricinfo to get the scorecard and reports. The match report says Pakistan were very rusty and they were in their second game too. Once Pakistan got into their stride the bowlers lines and lengths improved. I think you're going all out to try and say that Gul is a useless T20 bowler and that India will hammer him come what may, but you simply cannot ignore the stats which read an economy rate of 5.9 and an average of 13, that's a match winner for you.
vvvslaxman Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Fact is everyone has figured out Gul is a 2 card trick bowler. Bouncer or Yorker. That is why he has been leaking runs all over in recent times. Even in Tests. He has also lost a bit of pace. In Windies it is going to be even more slow.

No he played SA before India and was thrashed by Albie Morkel. He is similar to Malinga .
Serani Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Gul is better than all Indian bowlers in 2020. End of story.

This Gul is another way too over-rated Paki bowler. Most recently he is getting walloped around by every batsman. Let us see who will do well in this world cup.

Most recently he is getting walloped around by every batsman. Let us see who will do well in this world cup. Why is it so difficult for you to accept that Gul is the best in T20? Anyone with any common sense can see this. He didn't tamper the ball in that NZ game, in fact he didn't even get that much swing from it, it was gentle swing, it was the fact that he kept pitching the ball up that he got wickets. Fact is Umar Gul is the best, he was the best in both WC matches and even if you took out the extra games he played cause Pakistan got to 2 finals, he still outbowled all others. He has recently been getting hammered, that is a major concern for us, however he's a very good bowler in this format and it's inevitable if he's fit he'll get back to that form he was in the first two tournaments.
king2be98 Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 No he played SA before India and was thrashed by Albie Morkel. He is similar to Malinga . Again you're ignoring the fact that those were 2 warm up games, in which everyone got battered. When it really mattered, when there was somethign vital on the line, a place in the final. Umar Gul bowled incredibly well, so well that Wasim Akram and Michael Atherton both said that they have never seen death bowling of such high quality. In the practise match he didn't get his yorkers going, but in the semi final he did, he bowled 3overs of such good quality. Umar Gul has got slapped around lately, but T20 is his forte, he can come in and do what he does best, spear in yorkers.
vvvslaxman Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Gul last T20 match 4 overs 43 runs previous T20 3 overs 36 runs :giggle: Yes it is his forte oflate

Do you still deny that Umar Gul is the best T20 bowler? Are you still trying to convince yourself he's not the best in this format, in fact ask most genuine Indian fans and neutrals and EVERYONE will say that Gul is the best. He's been poor in tests and ODIs for a while now, his last 2 T20s were poor too, but only a fool would think he's still not the best in this format.

Yusuf Pathan has a strike rate of 167. That won't make him the best T20 batsman in the world.
