Let's look at the SR and ER of some of the key batsmen and bowlers respectively from those that played at least 3 innings:

At this rate:

So runs scored and runs given are at par! Now if we were to replace numbers of someone like Yuvraj, what do you think would happen? Alternatively, if we had 'proper' in-form bowlers bowling most of our overs then what would be the result? Here we have YP, Zak and Jadeja bowl at least 10 overs in the tourney. At Barbados, we went in with 2 seamers (iirc) and had those part-timers bowling. With the kind of batting line up we fielded in most of our games, we needed bowlers who could keep opposition to under 140. Or with the kind of bowlers we had bowling, we needed to score like 170+ in every game This exercise is nothing more but to show us things that we already know, i.e the importance of getting the team selection and strategy right!
