NEW DELHI: With US continuing to lean hard on Pakistan to arrest all involved in the conspiracy behind Faisal Shahzad's botched bid to set off an explosion in New York's Times Square, there was intense speculation about the arrest of `Major Iqbal', a serving officer of the Pakistan army who has been identified as a key figure in the 26/11 plot. Reports in sections of the Pakistani media said that the officer was picked up by the Pakistani authorities following pressure from the US and just before the visit of the director of the CIA, Leon Panetta, and US national security adviser General James Jones. Sources in the government here seemed inclined to believe the reports in view of the US's unrelenting pressure on Pakistan to unravel the conspiracy behind Faisal Shahzad's failed bid to set off an explosion in Times Square. Indian agencies have identified Major Iqbal and another serving officer of the Pakistan army, Major Samir Ali, as key figures in the conspiracy to attack Mumbai. Sources said that `Major Iqbal' who along with `Major Ali' figured in the dossier submitted to Pakistan foreign secretary Salman Bashir when he visited India, was the chief handler of David Headley, the American jehadi, who carried out reconnaisance for Mohammad Ajmal Kasab and his gang members. The Pakistan army officer, who obviously uses an alias, trained Headley in open surveillance. The "Major" also gave Headley a list of targets he wanted to be recceed and funds. Pakistan had brushed aside evidence given by India of the involvement of its serving officers in the terror plot, with Bashir dismissing the dossier as a piece of literature. The US pressure, however, has forced it to give in. According to reports from Pakistan, Panetta and General James Jones had meetings with the president of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, and its army chief, General Ashfaq Parvez Kiyani. A joint statement issued after the deliberations quoted General Jones as expressing "appreciation for the excellent cooperation the United States is receiving from Pakistan". "The talks covered measures that both countries are, and will be, taking to confront the common threat we face from extremists and prevent such potential attacks from occurring again."

There are so many -- that is it pointless to evenlist them here Oh here are our Moderators -- who have already edited my posts. Mamu, chill out a bit. Most of your posts are so full of anger and venom! Fine, you have this seething resentment against the Pakistani society but why are you needlessly going on a tirade against, bhanu just because he is a Pakistani? From whatever I've seen of him here he has never provoked other posters or indulged in any anti-India baiting. In fact many a times he has shown a lot of calm when attacked even on a personal level. What are you aiming to achieve by abusing him? Is it going to make India or the world safer? Is it going to eliminate terrorists from the world?

Oh did not see your post. I launched a tirade against him cuz instead of accepting facts he showed a finger(yes, no matter what you say I take that personally). The whole idea was to put him in his place -- a GUTTER! We (more specifically me) do not need to take crap from a gutter bred worm.

WASHINGTON: Following up on secretary of state Hillary Clinton's warning that there would be "severe consequences" for Pakistan should another terrorist attack in the US be traced to that country, two senior Obama administration officials have notified Islamabad there will be "inevitable pressure" on Washington to act against the country in that case, perhaps even militarily, spurring the government to quickly round up terror proxies and planners. In contrast to the dodgy manner in which Islamabad has shielded culprits associated with Mumbai's 26/11 massacre, authorities in Pakistan have now arrested 11 suspects, including an army major, for their links with failed Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad. The action came after two top US officials visited Islamabad last week and presented a dossier on Shahzad, including evidence of his contacts with the Pakistani Taliban and military connections, backed with understated threats. After initially insisting that Shahzad was a "lone wolf" (an assertion bought at first by some US generals), Pakistan appears to have accepted the American contention that he was backed by a network that included many from the Pakistani elite, including from its armed forces. Days after US National Security Adviser Jim Jones and CIA director Leon Panetta read the riot act to Pakistan's civilian and military rulers, authorities there have sprung into action, taking nearly a dozen suspects into custody. Among them is a major in Pakistan's Army Signal Corps who authorities initially said was an ex-army officer but his resignation it turns out was being processed when he was held. Subsequently, his brother, a software engineer, has also been held. Also in custody are other elites, including one from a catering firm that had served the US embassy. US officials are now starting to believe that the canker of extremism has now infected the Pakistani elite and military.

Not a big deal - I've personally opposed having the finger emoticon on the site, but since it's there and most people use it for having a casual dig at one another, we don't take any notice of it. However, if you felt attacked by that emoticon used by a user report the post and it will be edited/deleted.
The whole idea was to put him in his place -- a GUTTER! We (more specifically me) do not need to take crap from a gutter bred worm.
I should be removing these kind of personal abuses, but will let them stand since I am responding to them. You really think going into a tirade against a person over an emoticon which is usually used in jest, is going to 'put him in his place'. Let me ask you my questions again - did your tirade against bhanu make India being even a step away from terrorist attacks, or in general made the world a safer place?
