Even if the Indian fans will complain about the selection of the team, it's still pretty close to being their best team when the top 5 players are missing. Australia went to India without the best 7 players last year and still smashed them black and blue. That's what depth is. There is no depth in Indian cricket.

The actual number of players from first team squad which are missing is around 10. Let me give you a list as well... Sehwag Tendulkar Gambhir Yuvraj Dhoni Harbhajan Zaheer Nehra Parveen Kumar Ishant Sharma The only players in the current squad who will be part of the first team XI are Raina, Jadeja and Kohli (maybe). That being said you make a fair point that India, who's ranked no. 1 in tests and 2 in odis, should be beating Zimb even with a second string XI.

I never thought I would see the day when an Indian team, second string admittedly, would struggle against slower bowlers. These bowlers were disciplined but nothing special like Murali or Mendis which our batsmen made them look like. Now this begs the question if our younger players can't play pace or spin what exactly are they capable of?

There is no depth in Indian cricket. its not a title given by the fans... its something they earned. how can you say they dont deserve it? if they really dont deserve it -- then the rankings will show. i have seen some other country fans saying that indian players dont deserve the money they are getting -- again, its something because of indian fans... its not the income they are getting from ICC to give more money to the most deserving.
DomainK Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Most people dont understand how bad a B-team can sometimes look like.You pick one of these players and put him in the Indian team full of the senior players and he will play under less pressure, more guidance and with far more confidence. You put him in a team full of inexperienced players and he will play rubbish.

Fair Game Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I think the depth of each country comes back to how hard they work at coaching the youngsters on the rise and how they are trained and taught. Instead of just picking players because of they're families welth. We have seen it very sparingly over the years of a poor kid growing up in a bad area and cricket is all he had. It's happened of course to a few great players over the years but with india having a billion people you would think there has to be hundreds of superstar 8-12 year olds out there in the poor areas who are freaks at cricket but just aren't looked at.

Just repeating what Ian Chappell said a while back? No one is "fooling" themselves that India is no.1 and no.2 on the rankings. It is a fact. The OP, frustrated that his team hasn't beaten India in six Tests and needed cheating umpires to win the seventh, is claiming that India shouldn't be called no.1 even though they are, err, no.1. If our batting declines to the point to the extent that we fall down the rankings, fair enough, but for now we are in the top two deservedly.
