This isn't a bad selection after all. May be couple of changes could have been done. But it's not a new phenomena, happens with most of the selections. Crux of the problem is not with selection but dearth of young talent at domestic level. None of the youngsters being given the opportunity, haven't embraced international cricket.That transition from domestic to international level is not quite happening and selectors are not the one to be blamed for that. There's always a huge hue and cry if a performer at domestic cricket is not given the chance to perform at top arena and sadly what's happening of late is that once he's there everyone realizes he's not good enough to stay there :(

rayudu and uthappa are the only realistic choices. no. weak foundation.don't expect much. jadeja is not striking the ball well enuf and his range is not good enuf.but that's to be expected considering his age. however in 4-5 years time he can be deadly with the bat.

Rayudu over Kohli? - Kohli's been given chances in one day and he has performed decently? Why drop him instead of grooming him? What weak foundation and how worse can he be then Jadeja, who you consider will be a deadly bat in 4-5 years? Why can't Ashwin become a deadly bat in 5 years? Tiwary is a good selection, though he probably might not get a game. No harm in giving him a shot, given his superb domestic season. Yeah, it was in the Plate league, but he really doesn't have a choice there. Ashwin is another very good selection. He has shown the ability to pick up wickets, something even Harbhajan and Zaheer cannot do on a regular basis in ODIs. If he can crank up his batting against good attacks, he can replace Jadeja in the long run. Not that Jadeja's batting is anything great, but the perception is of him being in as an all rounder. I think our attack with P Kumar, Zaheer, and Nehra would be pretty well suited for the kind of conditions expected in Asia Cup with a bit of swing. The entire tournament is being played at Dambulla, keep in mind. Dinda is utter garbage. Anyone who has followed domestic cricket would know that - he gets hammered for fun in the Ranji Trophy on a regular basis. The guy averages more than 50 in 3 out of the last 4 seasons and is no spring chicken to invest in the future with. I Pathan as a batting all rounder should have been taken in his place. A bit hasty to drop Yuvraj, but if it had to be done then better now rather than closer to the World Cup. Overall, I think we have a pretty good chance in the tournament with this squad. I would expect a par showing of entering the final with this team. We have decent bowlers for the conditions.

his batting doesn't seem bad but even in the IPL he seeemed bent on going for cute shots and unnecessary innovation hope he fixes that. but i agree he can be a credible replacement for Jadeja should he become more consistent with the bat

at what level? for that matter.i have seen aashish kapoor(5 years senior) the captain of the senior team scored a triple hundred in one of the school matches. badani bowled at pretty handy pace to me in the nets in the u 15's. lot of things happen in a lifetime. and remember agarkar? from what i have seen of ashwin's batting, it has weak foundation for batting at international level. he can be useful occasionally.no more than that.

he looked very comfortable at the crease for me, he has a sound technique the innings he played last game, we needed quick runs, so he had to play some innovative shots, as clearly, jaddu's incapable i think he's pretty good with the bat

kohli is playing solid knocks with patient singles and twos.however he has not dominated with authority or played those "matchwinner" knocks. to do that at internatinal level, you need to have a mature game which involves striking the ball spectacularly and having a range of shots to dent the opposition. if u look at the current ipl3, just remind yourselves how many times kohli failed in those chases that bangalore had . i am calling for uthappa or rayudu because they have developed their game for longer periods of time.uthappa especially is striking the ball exceptionally well and can wield enormous destructive powers. kohli does not offer anything comparable right now except some solid knocks against weaker opposition.he will not be a match winner with this approach especially vs australia. they just strangled him when he tried the same approach against them.

You are using Ipl3 as a benchmark to select players for ODI , Uthappa is injured, Shane Warne played Yususf Pathan in all 14 IPL matches so he must be the next Tendulkar - yeah I can see the information and expertise that informed people like you have.

Reasonably good team. A bit surprised with Yuvi's exclusion, does this have something to do with his T20 form, or is it just his fitness? Anyways Tiwari is a pretty decent choice as he can replace yuvi as a big hitting left hander. It'd have been better if Irfan was picked as a batting allrounder instead of Jaddu who can't field or bat (against a formidable opposition) for ****.
