Windies 'A' up against it after Pujara double CROYDON Saturday, June 19th 2010 West Indies A were facing a tough task in saving the second four-day ’Test’ against India A after captain Cheteshwar Pujara crafted a superb unbeaten double century on the second day yesterday. Â At the close at the Whitgift School, the Caribbean side were struggling on 12 for one in reply to India A’s massive 543 for eight declared. Â Pujara, unbeaten on 111 overnight, converted his knock into 208 not out, stroking 34 fours and a six in an innings lasting 355 balls. Â Wicketkeeper/batsman Wriddhiman Saha chipped in with 62 from 129 balls with eight fours while Jaskaran Singh cracked 58 from 90 balls with seven fours and two sixes. Â Resuming the day at 329 for five, India pressed on to keep Windies A in the field for most of the day. Â Jamaican fast bowler Andre Russell, who snatched five for 95, was their best bowler while fellow pacer Gavin Tonge finished with two for 114. Â The 22-year-old Russell, who started the day with three wickets, accounted for the dangerous Saha to a catch at the wicket by Chadwick Walton. Â West Indies A then had a horrific start, losing Kraigg Brathwaite cheaply for three with the score on 11, lbw to incisive teenaged left-arm seamer Jaidev Unadkat. -CMC Link to comment

Smith, Fletcher hit centuries as Windes A make strong reply Published: 20 Jun 2010 CROYDON, England – Captain Devon Smith and Andre Fletcher stroked fine centuries as West Indies A flourished on a rain-hit third day of their second four-day “Test” against India A yesterday. While Smith carved out a superb, unbeaten 131, Fletcher hit 123 to fire the Caribbean side to 332 in response to India A’s mammoth first innings total of 543 for eight. Playing at the Whitgift School, the duo added 225 for the third wicket to keep India A’s seamers at bay and edge their side closer to safety. The left-handed Smith stroked 15 fours in an innings that has required 224 balls while the right-handed Fletcher hit 20 fours off 253 balls. Resuming from their overnight 12 for one, Fletcher and opener Omar Phillips carried the score to 54 before the first wicket fell. The left-handed Phillips, who played two Tests last year, made 22 from 67 balls with four fours before he was bowled by 20-year-old seamer Jaskaran Singh. West Indies A, who twice collapsed in the opening “Test” last week to lose by six wickets, then averted any such reoccurrence with a strong batting display by Smith and Fletcher. Dangerous teenaged left-arm seamer Jaidev Unadkat, who claimed 13 wickets in the opening match, was successfully nullified as the two batsmen gathered runs readily. It was Unadkat, however, who broke the stand late in the day when he finally removed Fletcher, as he finished with two for 62. Again, there was no collapse as Smith and Kirk Edwards, who was unbeaten on 19, posted another 53 for the fourth wicket. (CMC) Link to comment

Chandan
Looks like no one take interest in the match since yesterday! Anyway, WI A came up with a strong reply to India's 543/8dec. and two of its batsmen hit splendid tons, in which their skipper Devon Smith had scored a big 170 while Flether hit 123. But today, Indian bowlers finished them off, at 563 runs and then both the teams agreed that it was a draw. Unadkat took 3, Abdullah's marathon effort of bowling 50 overs resulted in 3 wickets too, part timers MK Tiwari and S Dhawan took 2 and 1 wickets respectively. All in all, this track seemed like a featherbed where batsmen kept going forever and only two innings could result in 4 days. Link to comment
