Stats dont tell the whole story.Kallis is neither a ATG great batsman nor is he a ATG bowler. He maybe an ATG when it comes to All rounder category but nowhere close to being the most valuable player in cricket history. Kallis is playing in a era in which someone like Samaraweera averages in high 50s.So stats simply dont tell the story.
maybe he is not a better batsman than sachin, but his bowling abilties make him more valuable than even srt in any test side

One can always argue Kallis peaked in the 2000's. And not every attack he faced were Mickey Mouse bowlers. Samaraweera is a bully at home but he has boosted his avg. overseas in recent times. Kallis averages great outside of home.
No not every attack he faced is mickey mouse attack. But when he faced those quality attacks he sucked big time.
Take into account his ability to win and save matches with both the bat and ball and you have a complete cricketer. Kallis is a more than handy bowler and also a brilliant fielder.

All are a couple of levels above him as a batsmen. And he isnt exactly a great bowler to compensate for that.

At the moment it's hard to argue against Kallis. Hell I find it tough to argue Tendulkar is better than Kallis! The guy has hit 41 Test 100s' date=' taken nearly 300 wkts and averages 57 with the bat!!! Kallis surely ahead of SRt now.[/quote'] +1 A lot of people hating on Kallis should keep an eye on the price of humble pies. Yes,his bowling is not that great these days(just bouncers at 140s,swing both ways and not to forget, the Heavy ball) but he will still finish with around 300 wickets at 32.5<-Something which we Indians will give an arm and leg for. Averages 58 in SA,where the next best bat is in 40s(Amla 43, Smith 44, ABD 40),unlike in sub-continent where every Tom,Dick and Samaraweera averages in 50s. He is a 36 yr young bloke and has said he would like to play another cup. God knows where he will end up in if he'll do that. Also he will most certainly improve upon records like Batting avg against Lanka(as he did recently),Away at England(going to play a test series there) and Australia(SA to tour). And his minnow-bashing is overestimated(guys will be pissed here if I'll extend that logic to some of the GREATEST batsmen ever). Add to that, his slip fielding. In modern-day cricket,if there is something better than Kallis, then it doesnt exist.
