I thought he was being completely honest with himself as well as his team and country. Very few people have the mental strength to put their ego to the side and admit inadequacies the way Afridi has. I admire him for this decision. That his national team has had such step downs and step ups aplenty in the past perhaps does not light up his decision very well. But I am sure down the years this will be recognized for a selfless move. And more importantly a move with the best of Pakistani cricket interests in mind.

Apparently in Pakistan, a) Cricketers never take a break - they retire and unretire. b) Players dont get dropped - they are banned and unbanned. c) Political leaders (ask Nawaz Sharif) are never ousted - they are exiled and unexiled. You are better off being a terrorist than a cricketer in Pakistan because: a) When you commit suicide as a terrorist you are glorified, but if you are a cricketer commiting suicide (esp against Australia) you will be stoned. b) If you drop a bomb as a terrorist you are glorified, you drop a catch as a cricketer you will be convicted. c) Terrorists at least know that they have virgins to look forward to. d) Terrorists dont get raped. e) As a terrorist you always get to play at home. Instead he clearly did not want to risk getting injured in tests as well so he could remain fit for a possible IPL money loaded contract. He realised the bizzare afirdi brand propgated by idiots from pakistan maybe diminished by his awful play and captaincy. So quits to preserve the myth he is a good cricketer and so cash in on IPL money! What a selfish and cowardly individual. Yet people like you think he is a hero, BIZZARE!

He gave Test cricket a shot, he tried as he said to play and see if he was good enough and he failed miserably. However no one can justify the manner in which he played, even before the game begun, he should have known that a T20 style approach was not going to work nor was it the right way to play with several players around the 20yr age mark in the side. If he was going to give Test cricket a try, the very least he could have done was try to play in a more restrained manner. 2. He is the only player I can think of who has actually come out and said "he's not good enough", so that deserves incredible respect, but at the same time he should have given himself at least the series before he came to this decision and if nothing else, waited to tell everyone after the series before announcing whether he is good enough or not. 3. It's an incredible shame that someone like him, the personality the fan following he has, couldn't actually become a proper man and play with responsibilty. If he is as reckless and iressponsible in his everyday life as he is on the cricket field, then I feel for the youngsters around him. 4. It was never a case of whether he had the talent or not, in fact he isn't as bad technicially as some other players out there, but there are less talented players out there who are far superior to him in terms of performance because they have the temperament. Saying he doesn't have the temperament is a sad excuse and unacceptable one for any player. 5. If he was unfit prior to the game, he shouldn't have played full stop. No matter how good you are, even an Imran Khan in his pomp or Dennis Lillee, if you're not 100% fit you don't play. I love Afridi for the entertainment he provides, but I wouldn't love him any less if he puts aside his ego and actually played the way he should and not the way people want him to. Afridi was good enough to average over 30 with the bat in ODIs and over 40 in Tests, but poor management and the lack of control over players in Pakistan wasted his talent just as they did with so many other players including Shoaib Akhtar. He along with Shoaib will be forever remembered by fans, but not for the right reasons, which is a shame.

What's there to admire about a cricketer who completely went behind his team mates and squealed and back stabbed them to the board by saying he's keeping an eye on cricketers who give autographs to fans and would look at some women in the crowds and that they are not committed to the team? The fact is if Afridi is only admired by fools because there is no senior Pak cricketer who deserves any bit of respect after the years of sabotage, spot fixing, and gutter cricket they've played. If Afridi was an Indian cricketer, he would barely have any fan following because unlike Pakistan's Cricketers, we do have men of honor, committment and true character like Dhoni, Tendulkar, Sehwag, Zaheer, Dravid etc etc. His clown act wouldn't survive a day in the Indian team. That's the real shame about Pakistan cricket. That a fraud and charlatan was made captain of the highest class of cricket because there simply was no other option which speaks volumes about the lack of true professionals in Pakistan cricket. When I look at the last few Indian captains like Kumble, Dhoni, Dravid and Ganguly I realize just how lucky we are as fans to have these guys lead the team rather than a cheating, brainless chump like Afridi.

Your team lacks a stable leader and you're happy that the most touted of them all in recent years is running scared, regardless of his "brave retirement speech." If I'm not wrong, wasn't he eager to take up the job? Shouldn't he have delayed his announcement AT LEAST TILL THE SERIES WAS OVER? Great men rise despite the odds, and lesser men succumb to them. His deserting his captaincy in the midst of a tour is rank cowardice. Make no mistake- there's NOTHING brave about what he's done.
