State Bank of Patiala shock MRF Bangalore, Sep 1 State Bank of Patiala (SBP) defeated Madras Rubber Factory (MRF) by 13 runs in a close Group D encounter in Bangalore. Captain Pankaj Dharmani top-scored for SBP with 46 off 78 deliveries and was the last man to be dismissed as they were bowled out for 187 in 48.1 overs. No other SBP batsman went past 22 on a pitch where scoring proved difficult. Jharkhand offbreak bowler Sunny Gupta took 3 for 45 in ten overs. MRF began their chase poorly, collapsing to 44 for 4 at one stage. Tamil Nadu's Sridharan Sriram and Umashankar Sushil combined in a 63-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Sairaj Bahutule lost control of a pull in his first ball, and popped it straight into deep square leg's hands. Mota then bowled two dot balls to Uday Kaul, who was on 61, before giving away a single off the fourth ball, leaving new man S. Sreesanth three to get from two. Though EB lost a wicket in the 23 minutes of match before lunch and second wicket at 24, EB's third wicket pair of opener Charanjit Singh (33, 3x4, 50 balls) and Manoj Tiwary (41, 5x4, 52b) scored briskly as dark clouds gathered over the stadium.
