About the author: Martin Samuel aka Martyr Samiullah was born in London in 1972 to English parents. Martin prides himself on his astute observation skills, something that was evident even during his teenage days, when he used to repeatedly walk into a telephone pole in front of his house, while returning home from school. Martin went to Oxford to complete his PhD in psychology. His paper on "Offer a pound and get slapped" was nominated for a Nobel prize in 1994. Martin loves to ride on donkeys in his free time and can often be seen forcing donkeys in a corner & smooching them. He makes several fun trips with his family to Afghanistan where he got renamed "Martyr Samiullah" by the local tribals. Martin was recently in the news portrayed as a victim who lost his car (with his key on it) with its license plate reading "Door Ajar, Key Inside". There is no darker force in modern sport than Pakistan cricket. The disciples of the Balco chemical factory, the architects of Bloodgate, cheating footballers, the roid-raging big hitters of Major League Baseball, all pale beside the institutionalised corruption witnessed year on year when we look at Pakistan cricket. Those in the smart green PCB jackets are not among the accused this morning, but they have encouraged them, inadvertently or carelessly, along this crooked path. They have allowed an ethos to develop that has sullied cricket for too long. They have rescinded bans, turned blind eyes, colluded in outrageous acts of bad sportsmanship until we arrive here, at journey's end, with cricket in disrepute and disarray and one of the brightest talents the sport has produced as the collateral damage of a worthless culture that should now have exhausted its last sigh of public sympathy
