Gavaskar also had 35. His 34 Tests + 1 ODI.

I would think so. That and the frequency with which players score centuries in ODIs has gone up substantially. In the 70s/80s an ODI hundred was pretty rare. There were 158 centuries in 600 ODIs(26%) before Tendulkar's debut and 927 centuries in 2549 ODIs(36%) since.

That stat is up till Sachin's debut date - Haynes played 4-5 years more after it.
