Obviously the actual reason would have been to avoid making powerful enemies besides staying away from trouble. Its still disappointing though.

Even if he wasn't drunk, he would have outrightly denied it. What have you got then? A bunch of university students who can be persuaded by anyone to make such a claim for a few bucks? And he wasn't making this claim in front of random people - he was pals with them. The only reason I got to hear this bit was that I happened to be walking by the courtyard where these guys were talking, knew a couple of guys in the group, said 'Kiddan Paaji', and got the reply, 'Oii Shwetabh itthe aaiyn, ye gal tan sun'. So, it's not that anyone in the group was even interested in reporting it to some higher authorities. As for me, I've already said, got to pick the battles you want to fight.

Still cant help but feel disappointed. Perhaps someone stating this nonchalantly on a forum caught my goat. Fortunately, in my undergrad we did not have to deal with such depraved elements in the college so I guess its unfair on my part to pass any moral judgement.

The concept of due process is alive and kicking here. I would like that in India as well. And let's not highlight stray cases like OJ etc , The system works by and large. Otherwise I doubt if you would have taken US citizenship !:winky:
