I was under the impression that Sehwag plays the way he does irrespective of the situation or who he has in his team. But today' date=' I learned something new :P[/quote'] That is exactly how Sachin used to play in his young years(though not with the same strike rate but lots of risky shots) but when he became the no 1 bat in a weak team, he was forced to change his style of batting and play more responsibily Sehwag is fearless but not brainless. You make him sound like Afridi. When the team needs him, Sehwag is more than capable of playing responsibily

Precambrian, What is the strike rate of SRT till now in this innings?S/R 27? Hope you understand why Dravid (who was trying to find form after a lean run in prev series') was also batting slow. LOL! Sehwag scores and you got fooled by strike rate and were criticizing RD for slow batting. This is Tests and runs more vital, centuries more vital, than strike rate. Its a bonus we got someone like Sehwag.
You ignore two facts i) Sahcin was playing for end of day in third session unlike Dravid who was playing in the first ii) Sehwag was already out when Sachin came in 100% agree about runs being more vital than strike rates

There is Fatwa against this ... :nono: .... but the short answer is even 60 avg is a long stretch because of the huge no.of inngs he has played.
For each time he gets out for the next 30 times, if he scores 85 runs, --> he would have an average of 60.0X and have total test runs 16800.

I hope u understand diff between batting during the best part of the day (Dravid did) and batting at the *** end with a new partner (Sachin) against the new ball...

No point in it. That average will drop down if he's dismissed. He'll probably need to get about 120 odd runs (total) if he wants his average to stay 57 even after being dismissed.
Not sure about that. I think he needs to score about 60 (he was avging 56.96 before this match),

#of innings ( out) - avg required ( to meet career avg of 60)
10 136
20 98
25 90.4
30 85.33
40 79
50 75.2

So, going by the current form and typical length of run of form, avg of 85.33 over another 30 ( out) innings is a bit more than realistic target.

good work mate, I had counted the runs that he has scored today also. so thts why 85 should suffice.

^ he is not out yet in this innings - so not counted. :) To clarify above numbers apply before the start of this match. i.e. 280 innings, 30 n.o. 14240 runs @ avg of 56.96. And when I picked up the numbers from his profile on cricinfo, they also had not yet accounted for today's runs.

He is only getting better with time. Can someone post as to how much he needs to average going forward and over how many tests to get to a career avg of: a) 60 b) 65
Yoda. He aint good enough to go up to 65. PERIOD. But 60 is something he can dream about. Here are the numbers.... In the next 12 test matches, in about 20 innings he can be @60 if he stays NO 8 times and scores 1525 runs @127 OR stays NO 7 times and scores 1600 runs @123 OR stays NO 6 times and scores 1650 runs @117 Just impossible to keep up like that.

:hmmm: i made this thread thinking people will come and send their praises towards this master, yet you people are still not satisfied, and working out what he needs to do and dont! excluding one or two poster. I think its about time, there are no mathematics working out(calculations) on this great player, let him play with freedom! atleast now. tendulkar ji is zabardast khilarri, no shakk!

But what allows Sehwag to deliver KO blows? P57VU.jpg
Come on, nobody needs some other batsman except SRT, so really SRT's runs do not belong to him. PS: that would make runs/test even more meaningless since SRT really never scored anything just by himself.
