There is a group out there that understands very little of team sport fundas, which isn’t surprising because they have probably played very little o it, even at an amateur level. So if anything goes wrong, their knee-jerk, default reaction is to look for scapegoats. And how do you do that? Cricinfo statsguru and scoresheets of course! Just pick out the person whose stats look the worst in isolation and start the usual conversations about whether he should be replaced or not. Special mention here about Fineleg’s thread on Raina being replaced by Pujara. It seems as though in fineleg’s world, there are only two classes of players – a) One who is going to be dropped and b) One who is going to replace the dropped player. Apparently, there is no concept of failure without dire consequences. Fail in one series? Out you go, in comes the next guy, seems to be the mantra. Of course, hidden within the absurdities are also the usual exceptions. If Fineleg were to apply the standards of insanity uniformly, ICF should be teeming with threads filled with how Dravid should be replaced by Pujara or Vijay. However, Finey’s love for Dravid >>>> Finey’s BS logic. So, no wonder we don’t hear anything on that front.

What you probably missed there was probably an (not completely unfounded) opinion that Pujara is just better than Raina in the test format. Finey was not asking for Raina to be replaced with some useless player like Badrinath or Yuvraj was she? Many, probably including her, see a genuinely good player in Pujara and would love to induct him into the team as soon as possible. There are players like Dhoni and Bhajji that have been passengers in the team for a while, but you don't see people clamoring for their replacement because of the simple fact that they are the best we've got in the positions they play. So this whole song and dance routine such as yours that follow any valid criticism or opinion about players just muddles up the discussion imo.
