North Korea has fired a salvo of a couple of hundred shells into a South Korean Island near the maritime border today, in apparent retaliation to a joint South Korea-US military drill near its borders. South Korea responded with its own shelling. Injuries, loss of lives and devastation of civilian property has been reported on the South Korean side. An uneasy 12-24 hours awaits the Korean peninsula- any further escalation would lead to an inevitable all-out war.

Did that 22 yr old 4 star general start this ?
Supposedly happened after SK was having live firing exercises near the border - unnecessary provocation next to a madman's house I would say. Would anyone be firing blanks near a house of a man with a known history of psychiatric illness - and then blame him when he fires live rounds back at you ?:--D

The exercises have been part & parcel of life @ that border. The North has given warnings that sound like ultimatums for every planned exercise. This time they somehow delivered as promised.

Unlike us' date=' SK atleast has the nerve to put up a fight.[/quote'] Same as our situation with Pak..it is kindof a nervous fight.. Seoul is within range of ALL the NK Artillery pieces entrenched in the mountains along the DMZ... any conflict at all will be catastrophic for SK as well as Asia(Even this exchange of a few shells tanked all the Asian Stock Indices including ours)...Not to mention a potential nuke if this turns into/comprehended as an existential threat to Kim Jong Il...

Yep. Seems like diplomacy is a term alien in that part of our continent. Having said that, they have avoided wars for quite a while. If these 2 countries do have a go at each other, the world better get prepared for a USA vs China shadow-fight, given that both the Korean countries have different strategic partners.

Unlike us' date=' SK atleast has the nerve to put up a fight.[/quote'] u don't have to be in Poonch/Rajouri to hear the return artillery fire Mr. amrika-invaded-iraq-phar-oil. BTW do i need to tell u which side of the border is a front line ally of Big Daddy in the WoT ? And before u mention 26/11, please look up the Cheonan, a former Republic of Korea Navy warship.

If Push comes to shove..there is always a possibility of China annexing NK,deposing the great leader and all his family members and turning it into a SAR(special administrative region) like Hongkong thereby maintaining that buffer so that US troops are never along its borders. Think it was in 'TIME' that there was a piece which said that China had an OPlan for that.

Unlike us' date=' SK atleast has the nerve to put up a fight.[/quote'] They didn't really. The South korean plan of action of returning fire is returning fire by atleast 2 times. But they did only half(they claimed that they did not know about the shells that missed) and most reports suggest that they were aimed at seas rather than North korean army base. Lack of action for this and sinking of a South korean submarine this year is understandable. If you think India has got it bad with Pak as its neighbor, S. Korea is in a hopeless situation. Seoul and its suburbs homes half of S.korea's 40 million population and its less than a hour from the DMZ. With nothing to lose for N.korea and its citizens brainwashed, they could easily just go kamikazee on Seoul. That could result in millions of S.koreans lives lost in just a week. S.korea's only hope is a change in N.korea from within. Its a suicide mission for Seoul, if they try anything or even retaliate in kind.

USS George Washington accompanied by escort ships arrives in the South China sea this weekend. The good thing about this is China had warned USA not to send one few months back. So here's a :finger: to China.
