vaibhav_delhi Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Take out the barmy army first. Then also you act as if people from other areas cant go and watch it. Also they banned tv coverage in area so they had no choice if they wanted to watch it. They should build 15' date='000 seater stadiums and leave the 90,000 seaters to countriies that can fill it like eden gardens in India.[/quote'] actually it should be more than 40k, somewhere around 60-70K....as I dont think tht same people would be going and watching everyday of a test match.
King Tendulkar Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 So look at how the goal posts have shifted again. Gone from aussies flock to tests and fill the stadiums to the rafters, to look at percentage of population that attends etc etc. Well its a shame you guys dont show such understanding and flexibilty in analysing Indian attendances eg rotation of venues, not hot beds being chosen, annual earnings of people in india etc etc Instead you guys are all to quick to say India attendances suck, they just dont like tests. While telling us how great the holy cows attendances are, which have been proven to be false. Also Indias viewing figures are enormous wether its domestic games(IPL) or Tests. We always have best viewing figures and are world leaders in interest in cricket!
EnterTheVoid Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 er.. the Barmy Army are not inhabitants of Brisbane. There is a pointless debate based on ego going on here. India has had it share of poor attendances and was called such attendances are killing test cricket. Nobody then delved into reasons as to why there were poor attendances. Cost of tickets compared to average wages, distance of stadia from the city, working week , poor stadia conditions et all were factors. The point KT is making is that it is hypocrisy to not accept that what is billed as the most important series for teh Aussies & English, more important than the World cup some say, did not have full houses for all day. Ian Botham on sky as Third Man on the last day was pretty much playing spot the aussies on the 5th day. All reasons given by IKU & Sree_india about the test heading for a borefest, working day, poor opposition et all accepted, but that doesnt change the fact that half the stadium was empty. Why be critical of India when the stadiums are empty when it is true world over including Australia? Not all at Srini, poor pitch is poor pitch, wherever it is. I'll be the first to accept that. I am really disappointed with the GABBA pitch, after days 1 and 2, we thought we were in for a cracking contest. Unfortunately, thats not what transpired, god knows what happened to the cracks that were there on Day 1.
IKnowU Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I am really disappointed with the GABBA pitch, after days 1 and 2, we thought we were in for a cracking contest. Unfortunately, thats not what transpired, god knows what happened to the cracks that were there on Day 1. I thought the pitch played perfectly. Its just the teams were of poor quality(mainly Australia) The aussie bowlers cant reverse swing to save their lives, and playing a rookie who knows jack. There was spin assistance on the pitch but Doherty couldnt utilise it properly. And Australia's first innings could have been shortened significantly had it not been for Hussey's lucky escape early in the innings and during midway by not being given lbw.
Sachin=GOD Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 1. Barmy army would make maximum of 3000 people 2. Local coverage wasnt banned :finger: 3. Australian stadiums are used for multipurpose if you didnt know. Unlike India building one in every city know to man.:finger: you're very conveniently trying to shift the focus of the discussion form Aus to India:secret: As far as population goes, the same teams (England, South Africa, India, Pakistan etc) attracted much more crowds when they toured Aus in early 2000s or before that as compared to the crowds for the same teams now (when most probably the population must have increased since the early 2000s). This shows that cricket no longer is attracting the same crowds. As far as saying that Aus is a multi sport country and people got to see all sports - well, its been a multi sport country for a long time but more people still came to watch test cricket earlier as compared to now.:sarcastic_blum:

Btw, when asked to show evidence of POOR TEST MATCH ATTENDANCES, they pluck out one test and starting using that as a basis. How about showing a decline for the last 10 years ? Oh no, for all that effort that guy went to, he showed it for 1 year --- When the opposition was the mighty pakis () ;; No mention of the quality of opposition, the quality of contest or any of those factors. Just expect sell out for every day of the tests. Shows the mental capacity of these num nuts. :hysterical:

But you cant criticize Australia specifically since various factors go into it. Australia was dominating world cricket until last couple of years hence the slight downfaill. But public would turn up for the matches if enough promotion, ads and encouragement was given.
EnterTheVoid Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 see it again my friend' date=' it was for[b'] 2 seasons:--D What, against the MIGHTY NZ and WI ? Big deal :hysterical: As for SA, doesn't count, your statistics are incomplete. Show the test attendances for the past 10 years, than you can start talking about trends and declining attendances.
Sachin=GOD Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I believe the biggest reason for declining audiences in every country across all formats of cricket is the Future Tours Programmes. Its probably the worst FTP in any sport in the world. For ex -India and Aus have played 21 test matches over the last 10 years, which is like 2 tests per year. When two of the best teams in world cricket play each other almost every year, there will be no anticipation in the crowds. These type of series' should be played at most once every 2-3 years so when these matches are played, the crowds look forward to it. Another ex of horrible scheduling is Aus-SA test series - SA went to Aus in Dec 2008 for a 3 test series that ended in Jan 2009 and the very next month, Aus toured SA for 3 test series!! The T20 world cup was made more of a joke than anything else - in no other sport do you see the World cup being held twice in a space of 1 year (2009 T20 world cup in June 2009 and 2010 World cup, less than 11 months after that in May 2010). The worst is yet to come - from July to Dec 2011, India and West Indies play 6 test, 10 ODIs and 2 T20 matches. So, unless the FTP is improved, there will be continuous decline in audience in all the countries.
Sachin=GOD Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 What, against the MIGHTY NZ and WI ? Big deal :hysterical: As for SA, doesn't count, your statistics are incomplete. Show the test attendances for the past 10 years, than you can start talking about trends and declining attendances. In Aus-SA series, a total of 15 days cricket was played and I have provided you the attendance for 10 days spread over all the 3 tests and the total for these 10 days come to aroung 210000, that means around 21000 per day. For the 2nd and 3rd test the attendance for the opening two days is there and even you say that usually attendance is much better on the opening two-three days as compared to last two days, so even if those figures were available, it would add at most 80000-90000 over 5 days and then the total for entire series would be around 300000 for 15 days, that still comes to around 20000 per day:hatsoff: As far as attendance for 10 years is concerned, don't you worry I WILL PROVIDE THAT TOMORROW and bust all your myths.:two_thumbs_up:

Back that up with some statistics, quality of the opposition, quality of cricket, stadium capacity and compare that to stadia attendances across the world. If you can't do that, don't bother. :hysterical:
Sachinism Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 KT looked to point out the hypocrisy and we're seeing a clear case of it here. People can't accept a simple fact, the crowds were poor. Whatever the reasons may be, it doesn't matter, the attendance was poor. Australia and others don't receive the same amount of slack sub-continent teams get.

Poor crowds plague every country, no arguing with that. If poor crowds continue throughout the ASHES instead of ONE FREAKING TEST (that too, on days 4 and 5), than yes, theres a problem.
Sachin=GOD Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 HARD STATISTICS AND NUMBERS and you give me some stupid articles about ODIs and T20s. EnterTheVoid Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Isn't that KT's point. Numbers in India are taken out of context too, but people are ready to slate the board and country. I am not making the accusation that 'India is Killing Test Cricket' Since Australia is killing Test Cricket, I requested for some facts and figures over the last 10 years with appropriate context to clearly show the decline. Till now, NOTHING. Mr Sachin = God, who is also making the same accusation, wants to provide a list of numbers without context. Even someone with elementary understanding of basic statistics will know his efforts, if he even does that, mean absolute didly - squat.
