What exactly u mean by a destroyer?
In the subcontinent..you need both opening batsmen to go all guns blazing..with the middle order to provide experience and consolidate. Just look at the 96 winning SL outfit Two points 1) I see Gambhir-Sehwag to be the Ganguly-Tendu combo of the early part of the decade- incredible understanding in terms of running between the wickets or pacing an innings. Neither of these guys look reassuring coming in at one-down. 2)In the absence of Dravid we need strong experience at No.3..Tendu is just right for that. I am very sure he can adapt to this potential world cup winning role. I don't trust the Kohlis or Rainas with the No.3 spot in such an important tournament.

Probably the greatest opener in the history of ODIs (Sachin) and one of the most destructive batsmen around (Sehwag). If we have such an option then going with any other opening combination would be foolish.

well It is obvious that Sachin has been our best batsman over the years. I guess which of the 3 could be most effective at No. 3 would be the clinching factor. In that respect, we know that sehwag is most likely to fail down the order than the other two. Hence I would open with sehwag for sure. Not sure about his partner.
Sachin has played very very less matches as no.3 batsman. I seriously couldn't understand the logic behind sending a successful opener down the order just for the sake of it. This discussion is a waste of time :bye:

in the last 3 years Sachin has scored runs at a strike rate of over 94 which can be considered as "all guns blazing" IMO. As far as Sehwag-Gambhir not looking reassuring at no3 is considered, well, I think Sachin is STILL the best opener in ODIs so putting him down the order might not be such a good option.

Our bowling was crap ('crapper' than usual)..regardless of wherever tendu batted. When our spearhead Zaheer gets smashed around the stadium by unknown bangla batters..I don't know if it matters where Tendu bats. We did good in some of the worldcups because our bowlers showed up 96 : Kumble 2003 : Zak and Srinath
