Its not going to end till ppl stop watching it... and there are pbly a lot of ppl like me who don't like watching mickey mouse cricket everyday for 1-2 months. I've not watched IPL apart from the first few matches of season I. They've to do something about the format - reduce the number of matches.

The IPL has lost a bit of charm in all the controversies but it might be a good thing too like was the case with this year's Champions League T20 which was a lot refined and quality tournament with better success than the last year. It might also be a blessing in disguise for IPL. Regarding the teams, it now seems sure for Ahmedabad to get the 8th IPL team.

The Commissioner was thrown out. A Government Minister was thrown out. The reputation of the league was tarnished. 2 teams got thrown out. And the reason for this entire exercise has flushed itself down the drain. Self-goal. End of story.

IPL will not be affected by all this. We've seen in the past 3 seasons, it thrives on controversies and this season its going to be no different. The more the controversies, the more will be the hype around it. I also think its by no means the end of the IPL saga........Lalit Modi will definitely try to come back and defend himself and both Kings 11 and Rajasthan will fight BCCI in the courts, so this drama is going to continue for a long time.

And the BCCI says they acted in an honest and dignified manner on RR & KXIP! Wow, the hypocrisy is here to see. Just because it is a Minister backed franchise, they're willing to bend back so much that they would reach their backs the next time they give them their zillionth lifeline. PS - This development will really infuriate the 2 suspended franchises. Hope they fight in court with vigour.

Kochi franchise gets green signal, to play in IPL 4

The Governing Council of Indian Premier League on Sunday gave green signal to Kochi franchise to participate in the fourth season of the twenty20 league in 2011. BCCI accepted the new shareholding of the team after Satyajit Gaikwad confirms that Sunanda Pushkar has given up her share in the franchise. The Governing Council had last week deferred its decision on the franchisee for the third time last week in Nagpur, after the investors reached a last-minute shareholding agreement. Barely seven months after becoming the second most costliest team in the IPL, Kochi was on the verge of being thrown out of the event due to the shareholding dispute between the consortium's investors. The investors - Anchor Earth, Parinee Developers, Rosy Blue and Film Wave - hold 74 per cent of the equity. The remaining 26 per cent lies with the Gaikwad family - Shailendra, his brother Ravi and their parents all part of Rendezvous Sports World - as free equity for services rendered while bidding. It is this 26 per cent, which became a bone of contention among the stakeholders, as the investors were in no mood to give free equity to the Gaikwad family. The Gaikwads, on their part, initially refused to part with the equity but have now agreed to forego at least 15 per cent of it after the investors-group threatened to withdraw from the IPL, threatening the very existence of the franchisee, which was bought for a staggering sum of Rs 1533.33 crore, a franchisee source said. "The result of reports that the (Kochi) investors had written to the BCCI informing them of their intention to withdraw from the IPL was that the Gaikwads, who once held nearly 26 per cent equity in the franchisee, now hold only about 10 per cent," the source said. The Governing Council meeting is being held in the backdrop of the legal developments involving the BCCI and defunct IPL franchisees - Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals, the IPL Governing Council. According to the GC member, the Governing Council will also be apprised of all the developments in the case. The Cricket Board had earlier this week moved the Bombay High Court against the arbitrator's stay to the termination of contract with IPL franchisee Rajasthan Royals by it. Justice BN Srikrishna, who was appointed as arbitrator with the consent of both the parties on November 30, stayed the termination saying that prima facie was 'illegal'. In the case of Kings XI, Justice Srikrishna recused himself from the proceedings as the BCCI expressed reservations after he disclosed that he had once represented (as a lawyer) Bombay Dyeing, whose owner Ness Wadia has a stake in Kings XI. Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court had on Friday extended the deadline for the IPL franchisees to sign up their respective "marquee" players till December 8. BCCI had, on October 10, expelled Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals for allegedly violating contractual agreements and gave a termination notice of 30 days to the franchise to sort out internal disputes regarding the shareholding pattern. Kings XI and Rajasthan have since dragged BCCI to court over their expulsion. The BCCI has made it clear that eight teams will take part in the fourth edition of the league scheduled from April 8, just six days after the World Cup.

IPL 2011 likely to have ten teams

The fourth season of the IPL is set to go ahead with 10 teams and 74 matches as originally planned. ESPNcricinfo has learnt the BCCI is not likely to move the Supreme Court after it lost High Court appeals against the stay orders granted to the termination of Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals. The decision also means that the player auction should go ahead as previously scheduled on January 8 and 9. The news comes in three days after a division bench of the Bombay High Court dismissed the BCCI's appeal against the court's interim order staying the termination of the Punjab franchise. It is learnt that the BCCI didn't want to make an "ego issue" out of the dispute by prolonging the legal fight against what the court called an "erroneous and flawed" decision to terminate the franchise. The BCCI's acceptance of the court's verdict seems to have ended an air of uncertainty around the player auction, and the tournament itself. In October the BCCI had expelled Punjab and Rajasthan, holding the franchises guilty for violating the franchise agreement on three counts, including changes of ownership that went unreported to the board. With the Kochi franchise also mired in an ownership wrangle, it had seemed then that the 2011 IPL would not have even eight teams, the number of teams that participated in the first three seasons. The dispute between Kochi's owners, however, was settled and the franchise was cleared for the IPL earlier this month. The 2011 season will begin five days after the World Cup, which ends on April 2. The IPL's governing council had originally announced the format for the season in September, and had also set down rules for player retention.

Deserved it, hopefully RR and Punjab can get some money(compensation) for the so called insult. BCCI and their true colors, its like they never knew Modi was expanding it to 10 teams. Good try by BCCI in removing two teams and then having a open bid for two more bids. What the chance of Deccan or Koklotta being those names next time.
