Dropped from Test side for Yuvraj?:hysterical: You still havent said how it was Dhoni's decision? He announced retiremnt before the AUS series, Kumble was captain then and was expected to play another year atleast (Kumble).
There was a talk that Dada was about to be dropped from the test series vs the Aussies after a poor showing by our middle order in SL test tour. In fact Dada was dropped from the Rest of India team from the Irani Trophy match just before the Aus tests began. That was considered as a signal to the team management that Dada was about to be dropped by the selectors. All other regular players from the test team were picked for the ROI team. http://www.espncricinfo.com/iranitrophy2008/content/story/368713.html The article clearly states that Kumble and Kirsten both agreed to the decision of the selectors to drop Dada from the ROI team. The then selection panel headed by Vengsarkar wanted to see Kaif/Badri slotted at the no 6 position. Later on Cheeka led panel came and it was Cheeka who, it was rumoured, had offered an "honourable exit" to Dada even though Dada and Kumble denied this.

If he would have been dropped then am sure he would have been called back again, as Yuvraj has had a horror show so Far. It would have been a wrong decision .

You can bring in Retarded logics as much as you want' date=' 2008 stats you are Providing had the Horror series of Sri Lanka, where everyone Failed. [b']He "won" us a Test against SA that year. Am am not mentioning his other performances as yet, Apart from the SL series where everyone failed he was one of our most Consistent Batters in the Middle during that time. He was consistent even in AUS, though he didnt got any big score there. You better bring in all his stats since his come Back. Its not even 12 months stats you have concluded. And Given what Yuvraj done in 2008 he hardly would have got any chances had Ganguly not retired. Dropping Ganguly for Yuvraj? Not even close.
That match india won comfortably by 8 wickets, bhajji, sharma, sehwag also performed pretty well. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/332913.html 1 match is not enough to cement the place in the side. If you avg 35 for 13 test matches for an year home and away being in a potent batting line up as india, you can close to being axed => fact

He would have quit the game. There were reports in the media of him quitting the game when he was dropped from Irani Trophy. Also while anouncing his retirement, he had said he was tired of being humiliated again and again and did not want to plat the mercy of the others. In fact this is what he said when asked to chose what hurt the most being dropped by Chappel or being excluded from the Irani Trophy " "Definitely the Irani Trophy. I couldn't imagine being dropped for that. That's when I said, not again." http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/indvaus2008/content/current/story/373180.html

He will tell you sooner than Later How Dhoni is the most Indispensable Player of the Team be it in Tests and ODIs , he doesnt even consider Goddy Indispensable. And i would still like to know from him how Dhoni triggered Gangu's retirement, when he was not the Captain himself. Next thing he may claim Dhoni triggered Kumble's retiremnt too as he is a Better captain. :giggle:
lol...talk about misquoting, misunderstanding and talking rubbish. dhoni triggered ganguly's ouster from ODIs(CB series) => fact 1 dhoni hastened ganguly's retirement => fact 2 dhoni is more indispensable than anyone else for indina cricket currently => fact 3

Had it not been Ganguly's 87 in the 1st innings it wouldnt have been so easy hence we can Conclude that as a Match winning knock as he was the Highest scorer. And shall i mention how many good performances he had? Not match winning still was good enough to cement a place in the side. And talking about Avg 35 from 13 matches, If Dravid can have an Average of 30 Home and away why talk about Performance of Ganguly? Just the tour before AUs against Pak he had a Double Hundred => Fact.

Agreed.
dhoni hastened ganguly's retirement => fact 2
Wrong. It was the Selectors. Dhoni had no powers in the Test Team management then.
dhoni is more indispensable than anyone else for indina cricket currently => fact 3
You are equating Your Opinion with Fact.

wrong. yuvi was persisted with till he got injured too often in 2010. And after that, Raina was picked even if yuvi was fit due to the weight of his performances. plus raina is a way better fielder than gangs

Bhai log Dada is history now. Lets get back to the topic please. Even though I have myself helped in digressing from the topic, for discussion on Dada's retirement , either we can create a new thread or perhaps try searching for any old thread.

And from when place in the Test side is decided on the basis of Fielding alone? Leave fielding no doubt Gangu was a very poor Fielder, But Raina just cannot replace his Batting alone. In Odis Ground fielding is very Very IMP, where Gangu is a failure . But in test matches Catching is more IMP and Ganguly is OK in that aspect. And are we talking about Raina anyway? Everyone knows Raina is much better than what Yuvi is as a Test player, But we are talking about Yuvraj and Gangu. That time Raina just came in and had to Cement his place into the ODI team. Test spot was miles away, Badrinath was in contention after Yuvraj.

Agreed. Few people are still too much interested in digging History here.

No. you are wrong. Even though Gangs was considered better odi player than a test player, Dhoni ended gangulis odi career. He projected yuvi as most valuable odi bat, yuvi also talked in the interviews abt his dream of playing test cricket. I Am sure gangs was feeling out of place at that time with his persoanl performances going nowhere hence decided to retire for good. @saneindian: mate this is my last reply on ganguly in this thread .

I Disagree, Yes he was considered a Better ODI player than Test but since his comback it was just Opposite, is ODI performances had scores but were not effective, H was struggling to score quickly and was Awful. But his test performance was Outstanding was Leading Scorer of India in 2007 and You talk about awards right, he won the Asian Cricketer of the Year award. He looked Solid, very Solid as a Test player, the way he handled Paki and SA pacers easily goes on to say the ammount of Hard Work he put in. Looked one of the Very few Batsmen in the Team who werevery Comfortable and Solid facing the SA and Pak pacers.

Sorry to digress again. But this is factually wrong. If you look at the stats both during Ganguly's time after his comeback and post his retirement, both Yuvraj and Raina have done better than Dada at no 6. And the best no 6 during this period is obviously none other than VVS. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?batting_positionmax1=6;batting_positionmin1=6;batting_positionval1=batting_position;class=1;filter=advanced;orderby=runs;spanmax2=27+nov+2010;spanmin2=01+dec+2006;spanval2=span;team=6;template=results;type=batting
