Burma and North Korea make late bid to co-host next World War

Sources have confirmed that North Korea and Burma have emerged as late contenders to co-host the next World War. The bold joint bid to stage WWIII is said to have gone down well with the Axis of Evil committee who were impressed with their presentation, nuclear fusion capabilities and planned fan zones. The committee were said to be particularly enamoured of the bid’s cuddly tiger mascot ‘Pang’, who features on the logo playing keepy-uppy with President Obama’s head. The biggest concern over the bid had been Burma’s lack of nuclear bunker facilities but it now transpires the Burmese team have been working tirelessly to meet the criteria set out by the committee with the help of 300 highly trained North Korean nuclear fusion specialists. The news of the joint bid comes as a blow to Iran who were thought to be leading the betting with all leading bookmakers. It could be the final straw for the Iranian team who only recently got back on track after controversially bribing Axis delegates with less than the statutory number of uranium rods. Bookies have now made the Burmese and North Korean bid favourite despite the abject failure of previous co-hosts Germany and Japan. In a statement issued by a Burmese spokesperson, the military junta sought to allay any fears, “Comparisons to the last World War are extremely unfair.†“Technology has advanced immeasurably in the last 70 years so any concerns people may have regarding our ability to host a colourful and memorable World War are ultimately unfounded.†“Together we can deliver a spectacular event, the likes of which will never be seen again.†The winners will be announced suddenly in a blaze of publicity and death at a date to be confirmed.

English footballing humiliation to remain free-to-air

The European General Court (EGC) has ruled that English football fans can continue to watch their distinctly-average International football team implode at major events on free-to-air television for the foreseeable future. Fifa and Uefa had challenged a decision allowing the UK government to designate the World Cup and European Championships as free-to-watch events. They had been hoping to empty supporters’ pockets before the English team moved in to compound their misery with an abject struggle in the group stages before a comprehensive dispatching in the first round of the knock out phase. Both international cup competitions are on the UK list of ‘protected’ events, but the international footballing bodies argued that there was absolutely no feasible reason for them not to extract every iota of cash available to them from gullible football supporters. World Cup to remain free-to-air Fifa spokesman Arvand Millibut said the ruling left him feeling like he had just had the clearest of goals disallowed. “We are sick, sick to back teeth of both this ruling, and the English. How dare they expect to take advantage of the wonderful product they created for free.” “Why? Why should they get it for free? The only things in this life that come for free are disease and the crass victimisation of sporting teams which Fifa doesn’t want to see winning.” “Like those who aren’t sponsored by Nike or Adidas for example.” “Its not like we asked for a brown envelope or anything. That avenue was exhausted long ago.” FA spokesperson David Bernstein said he was more than satisfied at the UK being given the opportunity to plunge its collective fingers in the corruption friendly eye of FIFA. “What a day this is, we have finally won something FIFA didn’t want us to.” “We have just had a trophy delivered to the FA offices, and the presentation is due to start shortly.”

Morgan to replace Pietersen as England’s Guest Foreigner

The England cricket team have called up Irishman Eoin Morgan to replace South African Kevin Pietersen in the crucial ‘foreign carpet bagger’ role for the remainder of the ICC Cricket World Cup. The move follows Pietersen’s decision to return home for an operation on his herniated ego prior to the start of the lucrative IPL next month. A representative from England’s Management team said yesterday, “We respect KP’s decision to prioritise the IPL.” “Making huge amounts of money playing in a hit and hope competition watched by people with the attention span of a Next Top Model contestant is far more important than playing for England in the World Cup.” “I mean, it’s not like he’s really even English or anything.” Dubliner Morgan is seen as the ideal replacement for Pietersen in that he isn’t remotely English and is liable to get himself out at any time playing a rash shot that he completely made up only a few seconds before. As one member of England’s 197 strong coaching team revealed, “Once Eion inflates his ego up to the Jupiter-size proportions of KP we could have a real winner on our hands.” “If he could just start believing he’s a lot better than he actually is he could easily become English Cricket’s answer to Michael Flatley, or Bono.” South African born Captain Andrew Strauss and Zimbabwean Team Manager Andy Flower are believed to be considering rebranding the England Cricket Team as ‘The Former British Empire All-Stars‘. Although it is understood that Johanesburg born Wicket-keeper Matt Prior and Cape Town born batsman Jonathan Trott prefer the name ‘South Africa B‘.
