saneindian Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Selectors likely to keep Irfan Pathan out of 2011 World Cup probables list http://www.mid-day.com/sports/2010/dec/121210-Irfan-Pathan-World-Cup-probables-list.htm It appears like the national selection committee will retain the nucleus of India's squad when it prepares the final list of 30 probables for the 2011 World Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is to submit the list of cricketers to the International Cricket Council (ICC) by December 19. The biggest omission came in the form of all-rounder Irfan Pathan who was the man-of-the-match during the 2007 World T20 final. RP Singh, Abhimanyu Mithun and Dhawal Kulkarni are the other players missing. However, Mumbai all-rounder Abhishek Nayar's name has been discussed during previous meetings and could make a backdoor entry to the final list. BCCI had planned to organise a meeting on Friday in Chennai, but delayed it because Secretary N Srinivasan was busy with the Board's Special General Meeting (SGM) on Saturday. However, the list of probables has to be finalised before December 19. Actually, the selectors shortlisted 32 cricketers but will either discard two names from the list or submit the list of 32 players to the ICC. If the ICC insists on pruning the list down to 30, BCCI might keep two cricketers on standby in case of an injury before the mega tournament in February-March 2011. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The source being Mid-Day, cannot really take the report on its face value. But it does look like Irfan will not be fit. RPS and Mithun's ommission from the list will be surprising though, especially Mithun.
diegovegaz Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 rpsingh hasn't been in the best of form for quite a while now i rate him highly when he bowls in rhythm, its a completely different bowling attack but sadly, his current form will keep him out of the 15, may find a place in the 30 though
saneindian Posted December 13, 2010 Author Posted December 13, 2010 Ommission from the list of 30 players means a player is not even on the selector's radar. For guys like RPS and Mithun that will be a huge blow. Mithun , it must be said has been disappoitning in domestic cricket after the highs of last season. RPS has been in decent bowling form but is obviously struggling for fitness. Another guy who has disappointed so far in the domestic season is Amit Mishra. Hs been bowling absolute crap all season.
VRV Singh Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Irfan not being there hardly merits reports of the 'biggest omission'...it's no surprise
vamos_rafa Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 ^Yeah right. As of now he does not deserve to get a place among the probables.
TapSumBong Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Ifran and RPS would be a fair call to be omitted. Mithun gets a tough break!
Lord Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Irfan should be in 30 atleast.cant ignore his batting utility.our pacers r crap anyways apart from 3-4 guys
