He is having a prolonged drought and has not been consistent since 2007. I think he is not going to be around very long. I do not think he had to play at the ball today, he did and the rest is history. I am guessing he will be dropped or stripped of the captaincy soon which will prompt his retirement.

he will captain in worldcup, after that its not certain. If he loses captaincy he won't find place in XI easily. His form was fine in India...I think he will still score hundred or two in the Ashes.
