Should dhoni promote himself as batsman??

Its clear that he is way better than useless raina.he needs to promote himself at no5 or no6.

I beg to differ. In conditions like SA you need your most experienced and proven performer (Dravid) at no 3. If Pujara has to be in the team, he has to be at no 6 with Laxman and Dhoni at no 5 and no 7 respectively.

My point is Dravid of 2010 is nowhere as good as Dravid of 2001-2006.Of late he has been struggling,doesn't look self assured,is very tentative,etc.After Sehwag and Gambhir give a brisk start(which happens more often than not nowadays),he kills the momentum and gives the opponents time to regroup and apply pressure.In the early part of this millenium we invariably got off to poor starts and Dravid was almost like a 3rd opener.Lax is a free flowing batsman,high on confidence and can further drive the momentum in India's favour by coming in at no 3.It is said that the best player of a team mostly bats at no 3.After Sehwag and SRT,VVS has been our best bet in the last couple of years and he has played more match winning knocks than any other guy recently. Dravid coming in at no 6 with all his experience can counter the reversing ball and see off the 2nd new ball. I would like to see this happen because of a similar memory of 2001.Dravid was in poor form,Lax was going great guns,we got mauled in bombay,they swapped positions and the miracle at Eden unfolded.:--D:--D

Dravid and VVS' positions may not be a bad ploy. VVS can seriously dent the opposition if he gets going. Dhoni at 7 should be fine since he has to captain and keep as well, and expecting him to bat higher up might be asking for too much!

Dhoni should stay at 7 UNLESS they play Raina in the next match. If they play Raina (who i love as an ODI player) then India will simply have an extended tail. I would much rather see Pujara at 6 than Dhoni. I wouldn't mind see VVS coming in at 6 because if there is a collapse i would rather an experienced player came in at 6 than a youngster.

Very right. RD isnt the same now. His experience would be useful even at #6. And CP is said to be his replacement so why not draft him at the very same location?
