Question is how much more can he get. Lot of things going into his favor right now. 28-29 are generally the peak Age for a batsman He has pretty solid batting lineup around him Support of a good bowling lineup which ensures that pressure on the batsman is less Opener on the relatively flat tracks of today have more chance to score. On the whole the England team is young and they should continue to do well and be a stable unit for some time.
FairCricket Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 he is just a ordinary batman whos in peak form at the moment , also his avg is just 46 , these days lot of matches been playing so , new player will be able to get high scores when they retire , average player will get around 10,000 runs and great players will past 15000 easily in future .
Raghav_12 Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 ABDV also has almost 5000 runs at the age of 26 and is definitely better bat than Cook. I reckon he'll definitely go ahead of Cook. Just to put things in perspective Tendulkar was still at 26 when he had completed 6000 runs.
saneindian Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Will surely end up as the English batsman with most runs. Has got a good 7-8 years ahead of him which will mean around 80-90 tests. So he has got every chance of doubling his currently tally. His turnaround in this Ashes has been amazing. Was about to be dropped during the Pakistan series, scored a fighting 100 and hasn't looked back.

Just a solid bat with decent technique but a lot of factors are in his favor and his early start ensures that he will end getting a lot of runs. AB Devilliers is another one for the long run and a much better batsman overall.

No It's his recent 2-3 years which have catapulted him to the ranks of a great. And in addition there is the destruction factor that Sehwag brings. BTW if Cook could push his average to 50+, he surely will get more accolades than he has got so far.

BTW if Cook could push his average to 50+, he surely will get more accolades than he has got so far. pujara who scored a 50 ball 10 runs in last test was hailed as find and one for future yet cook who avg 45+ has scored 5k runs (3k less than laxman who has played double the games and 10yrs his senior) is mediocre

We all thoight the guy will keep playing top cricket til 2015 since he's so fit and competitive. But now he may retire well before Sachin it seems, cricket is a tough game.
