Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane and bowler Dhawal Kulkarni have agreed to play for the franchises that approached them, under the BCCI guidelines of salaries they’re supposed to receive and are content as long as they get to play. Rahane has joined Rajasthan Royals and Kulkarni has opted for Sahara Pune Warriors and both cricketers told their former franchise Mumbai Indians about the move. MI, for their part, have retained Ambati Rayudu, R Sathish, Tushar Tere, Abu Nachim and Ali Mortaza among others, Kochi have signed Tanmay Srivastava and Royals have brought in Rahane. While there are other signings, these are the only names on record.
From CI
Rajasthan Royals have picked four players from the Rajasthan Ranji squad and Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane as a part of their uncapped basket. Aakash Chopra is the most prominent name among the Rajasthan players signed with the other three being middle-order batsman Ashok Menaria, seamer Deepak Chahar and wicketkeeper Dishant Harendra Yagnik.

MI snap up Tare, Rayudu, Suman K Shriniwas Rao TNN Mumbai: Deccan Chargers and Royal Challengers Bangalore perhaps seem to be falling back in the race for uncapped cricketers. Chargers have lost Tirumalasetti Suman to Mumbai Indians and RCB are all set to lose Manish Pandey to Sahara Pune Warriors. Suman and Pandey, along with Baroda player Ambati Rayudu, are among the hottest properties as far as the uncapped players in the domestic circuit are concerned. Meanwhile, two franchises, it is learnt, approached the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council__a third one was interested in joining them but opted out__to request for a change in the rules and regulations of signing uncapped players. However, the GC rejected it and is understood to have stuck to its original idea of a tripartite agreement policy between the player, franchise and the GC. “We agree that there are flaws but still this is the best possible option right now because eventually it gives the player the right to decide which franchise he wants to play for. The flaws pertain to the fee part but for now, we are beginning to understand that nothing much can be done about it,” an IPL official told TOI. Among other franchises, Kolkata Knight Riders have signed Mumbai spinner Iqbal Abdulla along with allrounder Laxmi Ratan Shukla and are in talks with Haryana’s wicketkeeper-batsman Manvinder Singh Bisla and Delhi allrounder Rajat Bhatia. Mumbai have formed a good side for themselves with Suman and Ambati in the fray along with R Sathish, Abu Nechim, Aditya Tare and Ali Mortaza among others. Sachin Tendulkar’s presence in the MI squad is learnt to be the reason for which the players decided to come on board. Kings XI Punjab have so far retained their former uncapped players in allrounder Love Ablish, Himachal Pradesh pacer Vikramjeet Malik and Uttar Pradesh left-arm pacer Shalabh Srivastava. Among the new names, Sunny Singh, Nitin Saini and all-rounder Siddharth Chitnis are on board. Rajasthan Royals have signed Ranji players Ajinkya Rahane, Aakash Chopra, Deepak Chahar, Ashok Menaria and Dishant Yagnik while Chennai Super Kings are all set to retain left-arm spinner Shadab Jakati, who has been in great demand. Jakati, Pandey, Rayudu, Suman and Sathish were players who were being eagerly sought after by more than one franchise. The only franchises yet to reveal their signings so far are Chargers who had $2.29m (Rs 10 cr) left in their purse after the auction, Delhi Daredevils who had $890,000 (Rs 3.38 cr) and Kochi who had $1.21m (Rs 5.4 cr). Meanwhile, Hrishikesh Kanitkar has been appointed assistant coach for Kochi and he will be working with chief coach Geoff Lawson, to bring about a balance in Team Kochi. Last year, Mumbai poached all the ICL stars and this year they've managed to retain them. Initially, the uncapped pLayers who played the majority of the season were originally to be part of the auction but was not implemented because MI suggested otherwise :nono: Nice thread btw

The current situation could have been avoided, the franchises feel, had the rule not been changed last month. The original plan was for domestic players who had played 75% of their teams' matches in IPL 3 to be part of the open auction and a transparent bidding process. That rule was changed to the current one following a suggestion from Mumbai Indians.

Kolkata sign up Iqbal Abdulla

Iqbal Abdulla, the Mumbai left-arm spinner, has signed a two-year deal with Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the fourth season of the IPL. Abdulla, who is also a useful lower-order batsman, was at Kolkata for the first three seasons, having been picked as their Under-19 draft in the first season, and now returns as an uncapped signing. "We needed a specialist Indian spinner to accompany Shakib [al Hasan] and Yusuf Pathan and we are happy to get Iqbal," a Kolkata spokesperson said.
Kings XI Punjab have been lucky to get back three players who were part of their squad in the previous seasons: Punjab allrounder Love Ablish, Himachal Pradesh fast bowler Vikramjeet Malik and Uttar Pradesh left-arm quick Shalabh Srivastava have decided to stay with Punjab for the next two years. The franchise has also signed Sunny Singh and Nitin Saini, centurions for Haryana in the Ranji quarterfinals this year against Tamil Nadu, along with 23-year-old batsman Siddharth Chitnis, who made his first-class debut for Mumbai this year.

Kamran Khan signs up with Pune

Shane Warne's discovery in the Indian Premier League, fast bowler Kamran Khan, will play for the Sahara Pune Warriors in the fourth season of the cash-rich Twenty20 league. "I have signed the contract with Pune. I will miss Shane (Warne) but I guess a new team will provide me the opportunity to play more matches," Khan told 'PTI Bhasha' from Mumbai.

Teams are signing up players from all catchment areas. So, how does the catchment area thing work. It looks like teams are poaching whatever good players they can find from any part of India. Catchment area is not making any sense as the stars of the catchment areas are being signup up by other teams.

Ok got the reply to the question in my previous post. Players can choose which team they will play for and not franchisee. Players will have final say, not franchises: IPL

NEW DELHI: The Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Wednesday clarified that players will have the final say in choosing a franchise, not the team owners. In the wake of the reported decision of Karnataka batsman Manish Pandey to decline the offer of Royal Challengers Bangalore to play for them in the fourth edition, Governing Council member Niranjan Shah told IANS that arm-twisting of cricketers by franchises is unfair and the player has the final say. Some of the franchises are apparently livid with the Governing Council rule on uncapped players since they do not have a strong catchment area to scout for players. Teams like Pune Warriors and Kochi are facing problems in recruiting uncapped players. Kochi has a limited area to operate as Tamil Nadu, Bangalore and Hyderabad have their own franchises. Pune's problem is that they cannot poach into Mumbai Indians' territory. "We are keeping a close watch as it is a very complex situation. But at the end of the day, the player should have the final say. Franchises have full rights to scout for players in their catchment area, but uncapped players have the right to negotiate," said Shah, who is also the board vice-president. Royal Challengers are planning to lodge a complaint with the Governing Council after Pandey, who was the first Indian to score a century in the IPL, reportedly rejected their offer and is negotiating with Sahara Pune Warriors. Pandey was released by Royal Challengers last year. As per IPL rules, uncapped players can be paid a maximum of Rs.3 million. The 21-year-old Pandey, however, is eligible for Rs.2 million, which is for cricketers who have played up to five seasons. Pandey was not fortunate like his India under-19 teammate Saurabh Tiwary, who by the virtue of three ODIs, was auctioned for a whopping $1.6 million by the Royal Challengers. Pandey has already presented his case to the IPL, and Shah said the Governing Council is closely monitoring it. "We are also keeping a close watch on any underhand dealings between the players and the franchises. All agreement will be tripartite, involving the board, the player and the franchise," he said.
