someone Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 This is a thread not necessary for the world cup but rather long term. Clearly at this moment, we have plenty of spinners namely Harbhajan,Ojha,Jadeja,Ashwin,Chawla. They are clearly the present and the future. There is not a lot of difference between all 5 of them. All of them have shown their talent but have the same weakness as inconsistency. So the question is which one to select for the world cup or even in long term, as you never know what is gonna come from their hands on that day. You nor I will know the correct answer but lets discuss to hear more fair opinions.
gaurav92 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Harbhajan Our most experienced spinner. He will lead the spin department in the World Cup for sure.He with his experience will be a handy bowler in a pressure tournament like World Cup.He will definitely be a part of the side unless he is unfit. Ashwin He has been a good bowler in IPL, doing a wonderful job for his franchise, bowling as an opening bowler, but having an offie already in the team and with the options of other part time spinners, makes the second spinner almost a nullity.Still if Bhajji is injured, he will be the second choice with Ojha. Ojha He has been performing well in the longer format of the game, and has been consistent enough to be there in the team, but he has not played too many ODIs and hence lacks the experience. The left arm option gives us more variety in our bowling. So if Bhajji is unfit, he is the other guy we can pick. Jadeja He has done nothing actually, to be there in the playing XI, and its almost certain that he will remain unpicked in the squad of 15 for the World Cup.SO its pointless discussing his performances here. Chawla Same as Jaddu, has been very inconsistent and has done nothing to be in the squad of the World Cup.
saneindian Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Add Mishra in there as well. Has mysteriously disappeared from the scene. Guess he became complacent after his debut success and then the IPL riches that came along. Kept ballooning up, stopped working hard, took things for granted and lost the lovely drift that he had. Could have been a very good test/ODI attacking spinner for us, but not to be. The tall left arm spinner Bhatt from baroda had a great season this time. Hopefully he continues to develop and is ready for international cricket in the next 1-2 seasons. With his hieght, loop and flight, looks to be a very good spinner destined for a bright future.

People are starting to think Ashwin is like destined to be legend much like the case of Pujara being a test legend. 7 matches and u know he is done? He is pretty much inexperienced and so if you want to say, among all of them who has done the least? It is him. The point is he is not as good as you think. Again Jadeja, he has played 5 times the matches of Ashwin and has proven to win(he has been MOMs) and contain opponents scores. So he is definitely not bad as people think. Ojha is a odd case. He has done well in both formats( see his records), but for some reason is totally ignored for ODIs. Maybe it is his non-existing batting, if that is a reason, then it is a awful reason. He deserves more chances

someone Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 Ok there. Harbhajan is the most experienced. So of course more is expected from him but he is very inconsistency. So you really never know what will he do in world cup

He deserves more chances Well you answered it yourself. He has played 5 times more than Ashwin, and hence he should have at least played one match winning role to be able to play for that long ! And Jadeja containing the opposition ? I think, we have been saved by his miseries in the middle overs as we have used our part timers like Raina,Sehwag, Yuvi and Rohit pretty well when Jadeja has gone for runs, and mind you, he has played as a containing option only, and wickets really are a bonus.

Another Jadeja bashing thread. Your attitude: If he plays well, so what so did the other players: Therefore he is crap. If he plays bad, ignore the other players: Therefore he is crap. And you last sentence could be the used for every Indian bowler... Jadeja is a good player and will be in the indian cricket team players options for a long time. That said, he is no worse, no better than Ashwin, Ojha. But he has more experience and surely that is crucial .
Sooda Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Looking longer term, Mumbais' Harmeet Singh, Srinivas for TN and Delhis Vikas Mishra... all seem to have good potential from what I have read. Not sure how they've been faring of late though...

He is sure an asset in terms of his fielding skills, but his weaknesses outperforms his strengths and hence he is not anywhere near my list of 15 perhaps for the WC. No hard feelings for Jadeja, but he needs lot more consistency to be able to be in the Playing XI.Actually he should be thanking our selection committee that he has represented our country for so long, even after failing consistently in so many games. We may agree to disagree on this since we are coming from different perspectives.

Not a lot of difference so is Jadeja as good as Sehwag? He does a job and his role he has been asked. He is certainly no worse than Ashwin which is basically the main point.
Ramzz Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Someone here is Jaddu in disguise. Comparing Sehwag and Jaddu? That's a new low for Viru :hysterical: Whenever Jaddu comes out to bat there seems to be a run out. Now why is that. Jaddu is a phattu when it comes to batting. His bowling WAS effective but was taken apart for like 72 runs in 4 overs or something in the t20 WC.

I was responding to a user who started talking about the role of averages in knowing if a player is good or not. And if averages were taken, then surely Sehwag would be long gone. Jadeja gets smacked in 1 match, and you forget his other good matches. Remember even the other bowlers gets smacked. And that was T20s where even IP has a worse record than him. In ODIs, he surely is doing decently and no worse than Ashwin.

If that isn't choking under pressure then what is it. His bowling appears to be one dimensional. When batsmen go after him, there is no changes in pace or line to counter the batter. His bowling has been jack for a while now. Only plus point: good fielder.

Make one a scapegoat and make some odd arguements. Runs out other players? That's your reason you hate him? SRT and Ganguly has done many times that so you would have kicked them out long time ago.
