Board of Control for Cricket in India president Sharad Pawar has said he would not contest the Cricket Board elections after his current term ends as he wants to help the game in a different way. "After this tenure is over, I shall not take this responsibility. After this two-year tenure, I shall aid the game and other members," said Pawar currently serving his second term in the high-profile job. Asked why he agreed to head the sports body when he was already actively involved in politics, he said, "I agreed to contest after requests from many people to take up the responsibility of BCCI. "When I first stood the elections in 2004, I lost. I had only one problem at that time. The bowler and the umpire were the same. And when you have an umpire-bowler combination, you are bound to lose your wicket. I lost my wicket," he told a weekly chat show programme of BBC Hindi, referring to his adversary Jagmohan Dalmiya. "In the next elections, we prepared ourselves and won with unprecedented margins. And in recent elections, I won unopposed." Pawar stoutly defended coach Greg Chappell. "He has worked as a coach, this impression has been given by all the players. I have spoken to all players many times and all have said his performance is good because he has helped improve their game quality." I am talking of Indian cricket's billing in monetary terms win/loss was no dalmiya's job it's for players, coach and selctors to worry. Even in win-loss terms everythign was not rosy but certainly came a long way same can;t be said about pawar reign.

how about Dal-mein-kaliya's patron-in-chief "appointment"?? Basically they did a head-count the day before the AGM - and Dalmiya figured his guys were going to just lose, in a very close vote. The actual vote was postponed a few times, by a few hours, as intense politicking went on (supposedly lots of pressure exerted to have people switch votes - this is not new, it had happened long ago too, when Dalmiya had run against his former buddy Bindra a few years ago. In that instance 2 or 3 associations changed votes at the very last minute - it later came out that Railways changed their vote to Dalmiya because the Railways Cricket Association President got a phonecall from the Railways Minister of the time, I think it was Ram Vilas Paswan in the Cabinet, to change his vote. And one state changed its vote because it got a call from the Chief Minster of the state - supposedly he had been told he would lose business from a few companies if his states association didnt vote for Dalmiya :-) Anyway. So this head-count is done, and Dalmiya's man (Ranbir Singh, son of Former Chief Minster of Haryana Bansi Lal) is probably goign to lose. So, suddenly 2 guys are there who claim to represent Maharashtra Cricket Association - only one has correct papers, of course, the chap who really is from MCA (and he is obviously going to vote for Sharad Pawar - Pawar, after all, is a former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, even if he is currently a Bombay Cricket Association rep). But the other guy claims to be from MCA too - and so the Maharashtra vote is disqualified. But that isnt all. There is also a dispute in the Rajasthan Cricket delegation - 2 people both claim to represent RCA (this is likely because the RCA is sort of split anyway - Raj Singh Dungarpur, now a Dalmiya opponent, is an old Rajasthan player and probaly still have friends there, he is former royalty after all). In this case, however, Dalmiya decides that one group is the "true" representative of the Rajasthan Association, while the other is not - and so Rajasthan is allowed to vote (and he votes for Dalmiya's man, Ranbir Singh). That is how the vote was tied - because one disputed chap was allowed to vote (for Dalmiya), and another disputed chap was not allowed to vote (against Dalmiya :-) So then, with the vote tied, it came down to the Chairman's casting vote - and Dalmiya, of course, voted for his man. Ta-da! Machiavelli bhi kuch seekh sakta tha.
