http://cricket.indiatimes.com/indiainsaarticleshow/763086.cms First, Tendulkar was asked to assess and analyse his own batting. He showed both his backfoot defence and his forward drive and kept explaining where he thought he was missing out. After about seven minutes, Chappell took the bat and gave him his version. According to him, it looked like, Tendulkar was getting squared up a little at the time of contact. He pointed out that he needs to get behind the ball, on top of it, to hit the drive into the desired areas. He also explained the need to walk with the stroke: hit the ball and follow it up with one or two short steps. COuld not believe this sort of basic flaws coould creep in maestro's batting

why not?? after a severe injury to an integral part of his batting, am not really surprised. even jordan and golfers like gary player had to retool basic techniques. good to know that he's in very very good hands when it comes to batting.

Re: Chappel frazer iron out sachin's flaws Everyone works on their game mate including Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods has remodelled his swing few times to catch up with his age to get the maximum power and accuracy. Often when you are scoring runs you don't bother working on technique but when runs are hard to come by you try and maximize your ability tweaking the technique. Once the runs starts flowing of course you don't worry how good you look.

Re: Chappel frazer iron out sachin's flaws This one seems to be little too basic a flaw. Changing technique I can understnad but it sounds like going to very basics. Point of injury meddling ur basic technique sounds germane. :wtg:

He also explained the need to walk with the stroke: hit the ball and follow it up with one or two short steps.
There are two approach to this one, some people believe you should not walk into your shots otherwise there will be no balance when you play your shot. The theory is to either push fully forward with the front foot when playing front foot drives and push fully backward (at times lifting the front foot) to get the balance to shift to the back foot when playing on the back. On both accounts the foot either the front or the back has to be firmly footed. The other foot (the back or front based on the type of shot played) remains stationary to ensure the balance is fully shifted to either of the foot. Ponting doesn't do the above, he walks into his shots on the front foot. Similarly KP, Hayden, Lara does it too. Tendulkar is either firmly on the front or back so is Rahul Dravid. Now certain coaches say moving into your shots is good (either back or front) so that it provides that extra momentum and also extra thrust into the shots particularly the front foot. Lot of such teachings is contradictory and there is no one rules for technique. Tendulkar's squaring up only happens against short balls and that is because these days he does this little shuffle off the back foot. Rahul Dravid also does the same but instead of moving his back foot over to middle or off he moves it behind slightly. This ensures he is side on at the time of playing the shot. Tendulkar of course has a shuffle towards middle and off. When playing a short ball just outside off or on the body the tendency will be to clear the left foot and that makes you straight on (squaring up) rather than side on when playing a shot. I think the technique is required but these days too over rated. You make subtle adjustments but do not make major change to the game otherwise the struggle will be more.

Eventually, Tendulkar was ready for a second shot; Chappell went back to his same position. But this time, he sat in his haunches to have a closer look. Now, Tendulkar?s left foot seemed to be coming out nicely; the ball was also meeting the sweet spot more obediently. Suddenly, it almost looked like the Sachin of old, the man with the booming drives, was back.
hopefully, he is really back....
