Hypothetical question out of left field

World cup is a long tournament and the winnner/finalists will play 9 games - 6 at the group stage and 3 knockouts - over month and a half. Generally over such a long time and over 9 games, a team is bound to have a bad game and knowing India they are not the sort of team to win 9 straight and I would say chances are India will lose a game somewhere. In fact Aussies are the only team I have see who remain unbeaten throughout the tourney. If India has a bad day, I hope it happens during the group stage so that we are not complacent in the knockouts and have the bad game out of our way. The question for you is which game would you prefer to see us lose in case we drop a game in the group stage? My choice is against Windies. That way we would have beaten SA and Eng and most probably would top the group and get to play NZ in the quarter final. Plus Windies is the last game before the quarters so it's the ideal time to have the bad game just before the knockouts as this Indian team is quite consistent and I can see them winning 3 games on the trot after losing one.

Perfect...Too Perfect.
Well in the perfect world I would have preferred us to lose one of the warm-up games as well... that would have taken case of the losing quota and increased the odds a bit more

Call me biased' date=' but I'd prefer if India lost the game vs South Africa...[/quote'] In that case SA most likely tops the group and plays kiwis in the quarters  I wouldn't mind that as long as India win the cup :--D

wtf is with loosing and complacency Did Australia think this way in the last 3 worldcups they won If you got to be the champions, win every damn thing. I hate to see fans thinking this way.

The key word in this thread is "Hypothetical"

LOL, you really expect a South African to agree with that? OK, so I know our history, but a girl can keep her hopes up and support her team. However, if I can't see SA take the trophy India is my choice.

The format is such that once you get to quarters it's anybody's game - one slip and you are out. The two areas SA needs to focus is its middle overs bowling - how to keep things tight and take wickets after Steyn and Morkel, and its later order batting. SA don't have any hitters down the order and I genuinely think the SA selectors erred in not selecting Albie Morkel for the tourney. I have seen Albie Morkel play in IPL and I have to say the guy is good and deserves the spot in the SA team ahead of Miller or whoever bats at 6. I, and the other Indian fans, are optimistic this time round as we genuinely feel that we have enough talent and a team who can beat any other team. This is one tourney where I can see India beating any other team. In the previous world cups Aussies were clearly better due to the likes of McGrath, Hayden, Gilchrist etc. but this time round man for man I don't see this Indian team second to anyone.

That's why I want to get rid of the one bad day ASAP as I don't think this Indian team will have too many bad days on Indian pitches.

Why not lose against the Netherlands then' date=' it will take care of all these weird law of averages and **** people keep talking abt.[/quote'] pk, your words are eternal

I am more of a Belichick fan and for quotes I prefer Dennis Green or Rex Ryan :) The only thing I would change is that we play to win the world cup... I would prefer to lose a game if it gives me a better chance to win the tourney.
