A simple blowhorn tune stolen from South Africa is all we see in the IPL promotion. We might not immediately feel his absence. Someday, when we are down in the dumps, we will. This is the guy I will credit for making India the big-boss of cricket. It was HE who wanted us to stand-up to bullying, tantrums and he took ICC on single-handedly and changed our perception before the world. In his capacity as the VP of BCCI, he did a lot of good for Indian cricket. Thats Jagmohan Dalmiya not Lalit Modi. Modi created the IPL on the back of the BCCIs formidable power and financial clout.

It would've been different under LM. And the stadium wouldn't be empty too. We are going to see a lot of difference from the previous era and I hope IPL lives up to the expectations. Just 1 day has gone, the IPL seems to have lost a lot of sheen. The real test would be next year, as this year, people have an incentive of watching the World Champions playing. Next year, it would be difficult to hold the people's attention with such lousy management.

abhinav Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I have no shame in accepting that I am a fan of LKM's marketing and business acumen. I just wish BCCI as an organization was mature enough to have set up checks and balances inplace so that absolute power did not reside in one person. It has been over a year since the scam came to light and still not a single charge has been filed against him, I wonder if the authorities are simply incompetent or not interested. Modi is waiting his time out, he is a BJP guy. I am not surprised he has been so gung-ho about Hazare's fight aganist corruption; he sees corruption as the poll plank that will bring BJP back to power and will bring him back to India and BCCI. We havent seen the last of him yet.

And I soo hope the day comes soon, which seems inevitable. Remember that BCCI, that once treated Jag Dalmiya as an untouchable made peace with him as soon as Modi was shown the door. The motive was to avoid Jag & Modi teaming up and taking the BCCI over. So when the day comes, I doubt BCCI will think twice before doing "Fraaaanships" with Lalit again.
