The Finisher

It's always been my opinion that every team needs a finisher, a power hitter who can come in with five/ten overs remaining and start smashing from the start. A good innings can't afford to stall because of a lost wicket at a crucial time Pollard Pathan Morkel (Albie) Afridi these are a few of the notable finishers in the modern game, capable of taking a game away in a few overs with destructive batting who would you say is the best finisher in each team, and in the modern game as a whole? for me personally, Pollard is the perfect finisher also, as most finishers are invariably also bowlers, who would you say is the best combination of bat and ball? (Albie will be taking on my beloved Cape Cobras tomorrow in a 20/20 semi-final) :nervous:

yusuf is the man! against ireland, uv and dhoni struggled to score 4 runs an over together. and had they been out there together even longer, it could've become a tight match. but then yusuf came in and dropped 14 in five balls by himself. i just dont understand why he is so low in the batting order, has to clean up the mess of the middle order. with 2 legit batsman in hand, he could be more aggressive and more destructive given there is not so much pressure on him to perform. he should be in before uv and dhoni in my opinion.

To me "finisher" is the guy who gets his team over the line, doesn't matter how it's done - by taking singles or upping the rate if required. The best finisher I have seen is Bevan - if he stayed at the end Aussies usually won. Other batsmen I would rate as good finishers are Dhoni and Mike Hussey. If you meant "power hitter" by the word "finisher" then I would go with Pollard, Pathan, Afridi, Razzaq, Symonds, Klusener etc. The best power hitters would have to be Klusener and Symonds but Symonds was more well rounded. In today's game I would go with Pathan (owing to his recent form) and Razzaq; not going with Afridi coz he's way too inconsistent and I haven't really seen him taking his over the line with the bat. Pollard still needs to prove himself at the intl level though he was lethal in IPL and T20 format.

come on guys, afridi doesnt even have an average of 15 this wc dont call him a finisher, gul was hitting better than him yesterday

Raina is the finisher. Pathan is not. He is a big hitter who can demolish attacks on his day. He can create the most impact but doesnt have the temperament to get the team to the finishing line Its pathetic that Raina cant find a place in the XI

Ah yes, Lance "Zulu" Klusener, one of the best batsman that South Africa has ever produced I still don't know if we've found someone to replicate his form

Rain , Yuvi & Dhoni are more proven as finishers tha Pathan . Infact we are blessed with so many batsmen who play well under pressure . Even the likes of GG and Kohli who normally bat to order finish off matches once they are set .

Mike Hussey is a really good finisher. Anyone remember the 2010 T20 World Cup semi-final?
How he finished off Saed Ajmal's career. Who can possibly forget that in this forum:yay:

we also had Irfan Pathan ,but because of our very highly qualified selectors we have to do it with Nehra Sreesanth & Munaf. Irfan was an allrounder & a genuine finisher.

Irfan,s bowling had gone down his primary role was that of a bowler and he also got injured i think hopefully he is going to make a comeback by doing well in the Domestic competition

Irfan is in no way a finisher like his brother is. His bowling was also lacklustre of late and he wasn't in form. When was the last time he even played an ODI...
