Incensed Niall O'Brien damaged door

The curious case of Niall O'Brien's ‘missing kitbag' took another turn as it has come to light that the Irish player had damaged the door of the visiting team's dressing room at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. Niall was run-out on 46 during the game that Ireland eventually lost to India. The incensed player had knocked down the door on his way back after being dismissed. The door, a brand new one that was installed in the refurbished dressing room, was severely damaged. The Karnataka State Cricket Association secretary Javagal Srinath, who is also on the ICC panel of match referees, levied a fine of Rs. 20,000 on the Irish team as per the rules. It is learnt that after some initial reservation the Irish management agreed to pay. OFFICIALS PERPLEXED However on Monday, Niall claimed that his bag containing six bats was missing. He immediately went to the Cubbon Park Police Station and lodged a complaint. A KSCA official said that all the bags were tallied when they were taken from the ground on Sunday night and that Niall's kit was intact. The KSCA officials are perplexed that Niall and the Irish management did not intimate the host association first about the ‘missing bag.'

Now, can anyone please explain to me, why were the aussies let off for damaging the TV??

According to CA version that I read (dont ask for a link, I dont have it), Ponting's guard did bounce off hit a tv, but it was unintentional and the tv was not damaged. The report of a broken tv was wrong.

there was no reason for O' Brien to be upset I thought Ireland acquitted themselves really well against a powerful Indian lineup If they continue to impress like this Test status cannot be far off

^ Being upset or not does not give you the freedom to damage any properties. Yes, they have been impressive but they must guard against such activities.

Ricky Ponting's payment was voluntary. He wasn't "punished"/"fined"/"ordered to pay" like our friend Niall here.

We all know how much our media likes to over exaggerate news, Newspapers have more gossip about celebrities than actual news. If Ponting indeed broke the tv intentionally he should have been fined and the matter should have ended at that but it is double standard for Niel O'brien to be fined and not Ponting but I think Ponting did pay the fine.
