I play for India, I play for people of my country: Gautam Gambhir | Afridi Contradicts

But he didnt say it! The soldier on the border did. :isalute:
That's the second part where he doesn't wanna lose to Pakistan and that is fair game. Here's the first part: 1. To my mind, a win against Pakistan and a win in the final and that too in Mumbai should be dedicated to those victims. 2. Do you think that will soothe their pain? 3. I am sure the win against Pakistan would have helped. :dontknow:

Yeah, I agree that the second part was unwarranted. I know that a lot of Indians think that way, but in Gautam's position, it's a wrong thing to say.

Ok, read it more closely and the slippery part is the response to the 2nd question: Don't know if he's being misquoted by the reporter or not but if that was the exact response, then to me it's uncalled for really. I am a fan of Gambhir and all, but if the report is correct, then it's a bit of a generalization IMO. I'm all for dedicating the finals win for the victims but the second answer is a bit off the radar.
I am a big Gambhir fan, but I would say that some particular comments could have been avoided by him. Earlier I had not read this interview in detail, but now going in detail I find few things unnecessary. Dedicating win in Mumbai to Mumbai victims is great from him. But equating a win in cricket match over Pakistan with some kind of revenge for Mumbai attacks is loose talk. Unnecessarily bringing politics in game. Cricket match is a cricket match after all, a sport, a game.

What Pakistan team have to do with 26/11? We also know who was responsible for Samjhauta express tragedy.
If Pakistan does not have anything to do with 26/11 then why do all Pakistanis start jumping up and down at the very mention of the word "26/11" - Chor ki Daadi Mein Tinka :hmmm:

++ Besides - Gambhir dedicated WC-win for 26/11 victims and not the specific win against Pakistan.

Sohail Tanvir achi zeniyat wala commented on Hindus still got away with it. Afridi bada dilwala commented on Indians and still got away with it no action by ICC what so ever. But when Gauti tributed world cup win to 26/11 victims these guys are getting vexed.

Gauti has not told anything about pakistan or pakistanis.. and they felt it because they know who were behind it. these pakis think they can tell whatever and get away with it..its true to some extent as no one cares them ..but a cricket captain told this and hence got some attention. hats off to gauti:two_thumbs_up:..after all he is from army family..

Exactly, as someone said - "chor kee daadhi mein tinka"..

@ Ludhianvi: I can safely say that Gauti's second answer pretty much reflects the general mindset of most Indian people. We all still feel for the victims of 26/11, after all it was the worst terror attack on our soil. The only difference here is that he had the balls to express himself and it's become a huge deal just because he's a famous personality. But even then that comment wasn't communal; it was directed toward a country as a whole, not like cheapskate Afridi who brought religion into the equation. That's the difference between class and crass. :isalute: Gauti. Also gotta love his aggressiveness on the field.
You just saved me typing up something very similar. Totally agree...

Whenever a tragedy has occured in recent past and if some big victory comes along soon after ...people tend to dedicate it to victims of that tragedy. What did Gambhir do wrong???? I dont understand why Pakistanis feeling so pissed. He never mentioned Pakistan. Is it a case of Pakistanis conscience *****ing them after Gambhirs statement. Even Pakistani players dedicated their victory to flood victims or earthhquake victms in past...Why was there no controversy back then? Oh wait conscience , respectability , not living in self denial...and Pakistaniss....naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Actually Afridi wanted to win so he could dedicate it to 26/11 victims. 10 of them eliminated by Indian armed forces and one is with Mumbai police in the jail. But alas Afridi jeet nahee paya isliye dedicate nahe kar paya. Isliye pareshaan hai bechara aur aise sab comments kar raha hai like big heart small - heart , we not untouchable etc etc. By the way he is reacting to IPL non selection I guess if he is not allowed to play IPL even in 2012 one more year he will go into severe depression  :hysterical:
