ganeshran Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Imran Khan is probably among the top 10 greatest bowlers of all time,a decent batsman, as good an allrounder as Sobers. He was a good captain,a force of authority in Pakistan cricket and mentor to Wasim,Waqar,Inzi,Anwar,Saleem Malik,Ijaz Ahmed,Mushtaq Ahmed etc. As an overall cricketer he is 100 times better than Dhoni but yeah Dhoni is a better captain. I dont agree. Imran was a great cricketer but Dhoni isnt that far behind. His captaincy was the trait that sets Imran apart, not his cricketing abilities. He had to manage varied egos in the dressing room and keep the team united.

But in tests Imran is godlike. 350+ wickets at an avg of 22 and a batting avg of 50+ in his last 10 years-:adore::adore::adore::adore:Respect.

He was a very good bowler I will give him that as a captain he never had the self belief to beat the best,
Asoka Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 what are you talking about 1.Imran Khan was pitiful batsman and you are comparing him with sobers who is one of best batsman ever to have played this game. He was a very good bowler I will give him that 2.as a captain he never had the self belief to beat the best, 1.And Sobers was a mediocre trundler 2.Thats why he led a team that challenged the greatest team of all time and drew 3 series' against them during a time when everyone else including aus were getting whitewashed. Pak should have won 1 (1987 i think) but the West Indian umpires cheated them. Thats why he destroyed Indian psyche by ruthlessly crushing the Indian team both at home and away,in tests as well as ODIs for fun. Thats why he whitewashed Aus at home, beat Eng etc etc. It would take a book to list down all his great accomplishments in the cricket field. Talking about self belief he was the one who inspired the Pakistani team to win 5 games on the trot against quality opposition in 92 when things were looking so bad for them. Dude Imran Khan had tremendous self belief.

Dude Imran Khan had tremendous self belief. He just won 1 series outside Sub-continent. :haha::haha: Stop writing garbage. Aus were very poor in 80s. Even India drew a series against WI. And you forgot how many times Pak umpires cheated .:hysterical::hysterical: Keep trolling.

Dude Imran Khan had tremendous self belief. Umpires cheating is a very subjective matter. If we start getting into that discussion, it will take days. In the absence of technology and neutral umpires rule, in the 80s and 90s there were routinely tons of decisions that went wrong and no one challenged it.
ganeshran Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Imran khan was certainly a great captain and an amazing bowler but saying he is 100 times better than Dhoni is simply stupid. Imran was known more for his captaincy abilities than his cricketing abilities. Now dont start with that trick about writing simply to kill time and how no one should take your posts seriously.

Ok forget the cheating business-still Imran's accomplishments are gr8.

When I said 100 times better iI didnt mean it literally,I meant that he is much much better. Tomorrow If I say that Sachin is 100 times better than Ravindra Jadeja will you take it literally?
ganeshran Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Ok forget the cheating business-still Imran's accomplishments are gr8. Never said that his accomplishments werent great. He is a legend in the game and truly deserves the respect. but its his captaincy that sets him apart, not his cricketing abilities. Akram was a far better bowler than Imran.
Pak_Forever Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Dhoni is as cool as a cucumber and no doubt is a very smart captain. Best in the cricket world right now. Though not to belittle Dhoni, but I will beg to differ the Imran Khan comparison. That dude is just at another level when it comes to leadership. His vision, self belief, determination, etc were simply awesome. That man had an eye to pick and see the future of players. He brought Wasim, Waqar, Inzy, Mushtaq, asked Anwar to open the day he saw him in the nets etc. You listen to him right now and he makes the most sense out of all cricket pundits.

yoda Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I think anyone would be happy to be compared to Dhoni now.

So if you say Sachin is 100 better than Sir Jadeja, it will be correct.

Like Terrorist will never attack cricketers Inzamam is the best player of phaast bowling Sachin is not a match winner. :hysterical::hysterical:
ganeshran Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I doubt that If you ask any Pakistani, they are more thrilled with his captaincy than his bowling or batting - though they will challenge anyone who says otherwise. Imran uncovered and mentored the matchwinners for Pakistan in the 90s. He was the reason Pakistan was a brilliant side in that decade. But as a cricketer, Imran is great but not legendary. His teammate Akram himself was a far more accomplished bowler. Dhoni as a cricketer is certainly among the best in the world now and when his legacy is cemented after 10 years, he will be right up there.

He is a legend in the game and truly deserves the respect. but its his captaincy that sets him apart, not his cricketing abilities. Akram was a far better bowler than Imran. I would say that in tests Imran edges out Akram. Not only are his stats better but he consistently demolished great batting sides like WI and India. Imran at his peak was probably the most devastating bowler of all time.Remember what he did to us in the flat pitches in 1982(40+ wickets@14,Godlike). Akram on the other hand struggled against Aus and Ind.

Imran was a legend,Dhoni is pretty mediocre. However Dhoni is damn good in the shorter formats.
