Andy Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Oh yeah - just one good season: 2004/05 - 17 goals 2005/06 - 19 goals 2006/07 - 23 goals 2007/08 - 18 goals (even though he missed 10 matches due to injury) 2008/09 - 20 goals (even thogh he missed a few matches due to injury) 2009/10 - 34 goals :hatsoff::hatsoff: And in how many of those seasons he played as a Central Striker or Lone Striker?
BeautifulGame Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Oh yeah - just one good season: 2004/05 - 17 goals 2005/06 - 19 goals 2006/07 - 23 goals 2007/08 - 18 goals (even though he missed 10 matches due to injury) 2008/09 - 20 goals (even thogh he missed a few matches due to injury) 2009/10 - 34 goals :hatsoff::hatsoff: So he has only one great year in 2010 where he scored 34 goals.Thats exactly my point. If u think scoring 17 and 20 goals are great record then check records of Bent. His record is more or less same.
Andy Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Ronaldo Messi and Kaka have won world player of year . How can you compare Rooney with them? They have won Player of the Year award for Club performances, But my reply was to the person who was talking in the Context of WC. Rooney hasnt won anything for Club Football yet,, But he has been Nominated and was Close to win it. So to Measure CR9,Messi, Kaka for their Club Performance and Measure Rooney's stature on the basis of WC is just ridiculous. Also ronaldo is not a WC flop.He had an great 2006 world cup.Him and Figo are only reason they reached semi I dont remember him having a great WC , He was average TBH.

If u think scoring 17 and 20 goals are great record then check records of Bent. His record is more or less same. You are again pressing on the same point of scoring number of Goals, ask Bent to play in the Left Mid field, ask him to play behind the striker , I bet he wont be scoring 10 per season.
BERGKAMP Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Rumours doing the rounds that he is going to quit Man Utd at the end of the season and go abroad to get away from al the attention he faces in UK.
pinkfreud Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011  At this article turning this thread into a football discussion.
Sachin=GOD Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 So he has only one great year in 2010 where he scored 34 goals.Thats exactly my point. If u think scoring 17 and 20 goals are great record then check records of Bent. His record is more or less same. if you have watched football you might know that he has had numerous injuries and has missed a large number of match and also, as Andy said, ask Bent to play behind the striker then we'll see what he does. Along with that Rooney's biggest contribution IMO is the sheer number of goals he creates for other players - he did that for Ronaldo and he's doing it for Berba now.
BeautifulGame Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 So for you Scoring goals is the only way to Judge a Player? It is for players who play day in and Day out as Striker' date=' Not for Players like Rooney who play mostly behind the Striker, sometimes in the Left Mid Field. You should watch the game more before passing on your Judgements on Footballers.[/quote'] Rooney only played at left wing when SAF played defensively in CL or big teams in EPL. Apart from that he always played as a striker with Ronaldo in the wings. Its not like Rooney played all his matches at LW when Ronaldo was there.

Thats plain BS, Ronaldo in last 2-3 seasons used to play ahead of Rooney. After Ronaldo went Berba has played ahead of Rooney many Times. I bet you are not a Man United follower, so not expecting you to know much about Man United Players. It was in 2009-10 season he played mostly as a Lone Striker and the results are in Front, when Ronaldo was there he used to play ahead of Rooney, ask anyone who followed.

Ronaldo only played as a striker only in big games. When Ronaldo scored 40 odd goals in 2008 he scored most of them from wings. Only when SAF used defensive tactics Rooney played as a left winger. Also when Berbatov was brought in Rooney played 4-4-2 formation as a second striker with Valencia and Nani in wings. Infact Rooney started really flourishing when Valencia was brought in. He thrived on Valencia's direct approach from wings. Its no coincidence he is again finding form once Velancia came back into the team this season. So its rubbish to say Rooney played on wings with Berbatov was playing ahead of him. It seems your United bias is clouding ur judgement

It seems your United bias is clouding ur judgement Now you need to see how many Games he played as a Striker and How Many he played behind the striker. Its not rubbish at all, if you are pressing on your Point that Ronaldo played behind Rooney mostly when he was at OT Find out FACTS, we have watched many games against the likes of Bolton, Birmingham where Ronaldo has played ahead of Rooney, For that one doesnt need to be an United Bias. It was after Ronaldo went and Before the 2006 WC he played as a striker. Now after Berba has been in some scoring form he has been sent back again and is playing mostly behind.
BeautifulGame Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Rumours doing the rounds that he is going to quit Man Utd at the end of the season and go abroad to get away from al the attention he faces in UK. The only club he can both get into and that can afford him are City or Chelsea.I cant see United selling him to either of them . So he will be in United unless SAF really want to get rid of him IMO

Where did i say Ronaldo played behind Rooney? Ronaldo played in wings with Rooney as Striker . United's biggest goal threat were always from wings. It was the same in 90's with Giggs and Beckham played same when Ronaldo was playing and its the same now. Thats the way SAF played.
BeautifulGame Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 you forgetting Real Madrid. Why would Madrid be interested. They already have Benzema and Higuain as strikers and Ozil plays behind the striker. Why would they spend 50 mil on Rooney when he cant fit into their team?

BeautifulGame Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 they have a history of spending money they can't afford on players they don't want to please supporters that don't care :hatsoff: Fortunately for Real they now have Mourinho at the helm. He wont spend stupid money on players he doesnt want.
Sachin=GOD Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Fortunately for Real they now have Mourinho at the helm. He wont spend stupid money on players he doesnt want. For how long will he remain there - Florentino Perez has a history of sacking managers after 1 season if they don't win anything. This season will be Mourinho's second and if he does'nt win anything (looks highly likely because they're virtually out of contention for Lal Liga and in Champs League also they may have Barca is semis, so not much chance there also) then I'm sure Perez will sack him also.

Not rue this is Mourinho's first season. Also Perez sacked Pellegrini last season only because Mourinho was avalable. Perez knows his only chance of toppling Barca is with Mourinho at the helm. There is no way Perez will sack Mourinho for atleast a couple more seasons particularly when u consider Mourinho is a huge fans favourite. Also Perez cant win next Presidential elections if he cant win CL in next 2 seasons and the best person to do it is Mourinho. Perez is crazy but he isnt daft
