Opening batsman Virender Sehwag is expected to overlook the entire tour of the West Indies to recover complete strength, whereas further senior players like Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh may be given rest in a phased manner.
This means that our ODI specialists Yuvi, Raina, Kohli, PK, Nehra, Ashwin, Yusuf Pathan,Rohit Sharma et al will be there. We have to find two persons who can open, a keeper who can bat well, two seamers and two spinners. Find your team: Opener Opener Kohli Yuvi Raina Pathan Keeper Ashwin Seamer PK seamer Nehra spinner Batsman batsman Fill in the places guys!

Gambhir should play and captain. Only 4 players need a break (SRT, Sehwag, Dhoni and Zaheer). If Dhoni opts out, I think Gambhir will want to play. He is an ambitious chap and will see this as another opportunity to lead the team.

^ I think guys like Gambhir who play all 3 formats should definitely be rested from meaningless encounters like this

Find your team: Opener- M Vijay (one final trial at the top of the ODI order) Opener- Mukund Kohli Yuvi Raina Pathan Keeper- Parthiv Ashwin Seamer-Umesh PK seamer-Nehra Maybe Dinda if Munaf is in the test squad spinner-Pragyan Batsman -Rahane batsman- Rohit but wed be lacking a reserve opener...I guess PP can open if needed
Id love for Kohli to be in the test squad so would go further still resting him from the ODIs and picking Badri maybe

With the seniors probably taking a break, it will be great to see what the selectors actually do. Last time that they sent a novice squad down to Zimbawe, not much came of it. My squad of 13 for the would include.... 1. G Gambhir / A Mukund 2. S. Dhawan 3. V Kohli 4. A Rayadu 5. S Raina 6. N Ojha/ P Patel 7. Y Pathan 8. R Jadeja (not really a fan but there dont seem to be a whole lot of all rounders out there.) 9. R Ashwin 10. A Mishra/ P Ojha 11. M Patel 12. U Jhadav (I think, also went on the tour of Zim)/ RP Singh 13. P Kumar R Sharma has had his chances in the past and its only fair if some other players are given a chance before we come round back to him. Not much to change in the batting lineup for the tests. If one of the seniors do take rest, probably the likes of Kohli and Badri (long shot) could be included. We DO need to find a decent third seamer after Zak and Ishant. Sreesanth doesnt cut it anymore.

We still need to win the series. Let's not send a completely inexperienced team and get embarrassed like what happened in Zim. Yuvraj hasn't played tests for a while. There is no need for him to rest. Gambhir should also play. What is this rubbish of resting young 20 year olds? Sehwag (injured) SRT (semi retired from ODIs) Zaheer (crucial in tests esp in Eng) Dhoni (captain) Everyone else should play. What next? Kohli and Ashwin being rested?

Find your team: Opener - M.Vijay Opener + keeper - Robin Uthappa Kohli Pujara (Just to help fast track him into the test side + he has a good 50+ List A average + recent strong showing wih the A team / though an unimpressive IPL) Yuvi Raina Pathan Ashwin Nehra PK Ishant Sharma Balaji ? (If no Munaf) Amit Mishra (A leg spin option outside of Piyush Chawla to go along with left-arm and off spin if required) Manoj Tiwary Ambati Rayudu (Rohit Sharma and Saurabh Tiwary havent done well enough to win back their place at the time of writing this post )
Going by the way he has been performing recently, Harbhajan Singh wont be missed from these tours anyway.

Tend to agree with you. Gambhir and probably even Dhoni needs to play the test series. Both of them are fit enough. GOD may rest though. He will be needed in England.

I was talking about ODIs actually. The full strength team should play the tests. Not even a debate about it. There is no way that SRT will rest for a test match unless he is injured.

For the West Indies series: T20I as well as ODI team: Virat Kohli Ambati Rayudu Rohit Sharma Suresh Raina Yuvraj Singh © Yusuf Pathan Robin Uthappa(wk) R Ashwin / Amit Mishra Sidharth Trivedi / RP Singh/Praveen Kumar Munaf Patel Ishant Sharma
:musicman: nice team....Yusuf and Uttapa both at bottom half are wasted. I would say no NOHIT Sharma but instead Yusuf and Kohli to open followed by Raydu ,Raina ,UV,Uttapa. Depending on match situation Kohli , UV and Raydu can play the controlling type of innigs with big hits if other hitter get out.with Raina Yusuf and Uttapa having licence to go ballistic . Instead of Rohit Sharma one could try Rahane or Tiwari or Badrinath (his bowling will be asset atleast in WI) .

Apart from M Vijay, Umaesh Yadav and Dinda.. I agree with this team. Can anyone suggest the replacement for these three guys? And why can't Munaf be in ODIs even if he is tests? Has he requested for rest? I'll want him to be in one format only though. Won't want to grind him dust. So any new promising seamer? Irfan? He is doing terribly in recent matches no?

Irfan has not been doing very well, but he is only 3 T20 matches in after a very long time out with Injury. It is not exactly a great way to get back rhythm- just 4 overs bursts on pattas where all the time you got batsmen trying to smash you. I did read that he did ok in his last match- relatively anyway. The match vs Yuvrajs team (Pune?) he got totally carted. Dinda has been haivng a good-ish IPL from what little Ive been following, and Umesh..he has not done much at Intl level yet but itd be nice to see him get an extended run, he offers something a bit different. Munaf is coming off a WC and an IPL so could deserve a rest if he is in the test squad. If it is only one format than it would be ODIs I think? I do not know if he has the variety to be a good test bowler, we need a wicket taker really... Other options are Vinay Kumar, Pankaj Singh and Sudeep Tyagi whove played ODIs in the past...maybe Dhawal Kulkarni... not sure how good those guys limited overs creds are but theyve been consistent at Ranji level. Is Tyagi fit? He looks like being a good wicket taking bowler. Also seems very fragile. Vinay does not seem especially good from what Ive seen. Abu Nechim bowled well in the IPL yesterday...but he is a bit inexperienced... Openers...Maybe Mukund/Uthappa?? Robins been batting far too low in the lineup thus far in the IPL. The other options for ODI opener in Vijays stead are Dhawan or Rahane. I did not want either opening because it would quite an inexperienced top two. Vijay has been having a good IPL and him and Mukund can bring that TN understanding with them...but you could argue he has had a few too many chances already Itd be great if Rahane can make his debut this series, ideally opening. With an idea to groom him as long term test opener

After the India A tour of Eng last year, this was on Pravin Amres report... Amongst others the likes of M Tiwary and Pandey were criticised. Ground fielding and ability to play short ball was slammed too... During the last year, India has tried as many as nine different bowlers in the one-day arena without ever looking close to arriving at a permanent solution. Not one of these bowlers, Sudeep Tyagi included, played more than five ODIs. However, instead of taking the challenge, head-on, Tyagi seems headed the wrong way. “I was personally very disappointed with his attitude. He sprained his side amongst other things but he was shadow of his original self. Not once did he look like the brilliant bowler of the last year’s emerging player’s team in Australia. Needs to rehabilitate and work on his bowling. If he has to go to the next level, his fielding has to improve,” Amre wrote in the report.

What I mean is that the players given chances in the series should be an investment in the the future and there is no point in investing in the players who are not international materials, like Dinda, Vinay Kumar,Pankaj Singh, Kulkarni and such players. Even Vijay has got more than enough chances in ODIs and has failed to grabbed them. Yadav was given one series where he failed. He can be given another chance if he performs well. Uthappa has done ok in List A tournaments and can be given another chance though I don't see any future there. I'd rather invest in a batsman like Rayudu and Pandey. Wonder why Aaron is not getting a chance! Nachim did so well in the first opportunity! Hope the young seamers are given a chance to shine/fail.

Hm, I think youre asking for 'young seamers' to be given a chance as if the likes of Pankaj etc are ageing and past it...!! The same thing can be said for them i.e. give them a chance to shine/fail. All the names you mentioned up there probably have less than 10 ODIs between them. Dinda yes his selection is based solely on IPL performance which is not a great way to judge a player really...but Vinay has a very good List A record, though admittedly not especially good in the oppos he has got thus far. What opportunity do you refer to that Nechim Ahmed did well in? AFAIK really all he has to show after his U19 exploits is the IPL and ICL...similary Aaron needs at least one more season of domestic cricket...do you think those two have shown that they are more likely international material...? Pandey was slammed in that post A tour report by Amre for his technique. I would say there are other middle order contenders, namely ones I have mentioned, ahead of him and even Rayudu...

[/quote'] Those ODI were enough to show that they are not international materials, however big domestic giants they might be! And there is no point in wasting another opportunities on them! This is the tragedy for seamers for our country. Our domestic system is just not reliable enough to tell us which seamer is a world beater! Or else Joginder Sharma or Pankaj Singh or Ranadev Bose would have taken the world by storm because that is how they've performed in the domestic circuit. We'll have to invest in potential bowlers now and if someone goes ahead with his hard work, it'll be our good luck. Thats how the things are. Which other MO batsmen did you mention? I think Badri won't get invested in now, that too in ODIs. So which other MO are left, better than Rayudu? Are you counting Rahane as MO batsman?

Why no one is talking about Amit mishra? I think we should take him along with Ashwin and Ojha as our spinners. Looking at WI struggle against spin three quality spinners would ensure the pace attack has a good backup.
