Duncan Fletcher to be the new Indian Coach

Not defending Fletcher, but the problems with the team are much deeper than Fletcher. Don't take the correlation of when he became the coach and India's poor performances as causality. With the role of a coach it's very difficult for someone not involved with the setup to assess performances. One can perhaps for a specialist bowling, batting, or fielding coach, but for a generic coach we don't even know what exactly his responsibilities are in the setup and if he is doing them right. On the other hand, the malaise with the team is obviously on field performance primarily and there is no accountability for the top players. Even after so many repeated drubbings and repeated failures from the core of the batting, no one is close to being dropped.

It's true that the players are the most to blame but Fletch hasn't impressed me much. Our best days came during Gary's tenure and while the players deserve the credit, so too does Kirsten. I'd say that Fletch should've been booted, not because he's the culprit or something, but there must be other good coaches around. (like Guru Greg)

Hiddink for Team India cricket coach -- why not!

You know what, he would still be better than Fletcher. At least he would know a thing or two about team's fitness. P.S. My point was, coach's fitness/fatness does not have much to do with team performance. Gave the example of Gus Hiddink as football is even more physically demanding.

If coach does not have much role to play, then why have phoren/costly coach at all? Besides we have had examples of Wright, Chappal, Kirsten - who contributed to the team performance +ively or -ively. And not to mention Fletcher's record with Poms.

I think he contributed positively to them for quite some time.
