Sachin=GOD Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I want it longer. I want all the 10 teams playing against each other home & away. I want it to for a whole season. Each team play about approx 40 games per season. International players can come and go depending on thier availability and the backs up take the place as reinforcements. Just like any other sport. I want IPL to end :--D

International players can come and go depending on thier availability and the backs up take the place as reinforcements. Just like any other sport. Possible, considering in the NBA, each team play 80 games in 6 months! but no need to go that far. But probably depending the how IPL pans out in the next four or five years in terms of TV ratings and overall quality, and the Indian economy, I could see an IPL of 18 teams played our 3 to 4 months with home/away games and a US style playoff knockout i.e. Each knockout game to be a best of 3 or 4, including the Final. But the most important factor has to be the sustainability of quality domestic players and good proportion of local representation in each IPL club.
Cricket Tragic Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I shed a few tears after reading the posts on this page.
rajmarie Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I shed a few tears after reading the posts on this page. I offer u some virtual tissues...but the reality is harsh. Cricket is not growing...& IMO will not grow. Too many self interest will keep it & probably shink it furture. Test cricket standard has come down dramatically. When I want to see Test series...I want to see only series involving Ind, Aus, SA & Eng. The rest of the countries simply make the numbers....sadly but true. & on top of that...too many useless ODI/T20 per series. & also no interest hence. Atleast IPL is a domestic tournament....& I personally find is enjoyable. I will probably watch some SLPL is they get it LIVE & FREE on youtube. Same for big bash & Eng T20. Waiting for Ind-Eng Test series. (might follow a bit Ind-WI)

Too many flat tracks being provided in SL, Ind, Bangla, WI, Aus, some grounds in Eng, and now from the most most unexpected quaters NZ. The problem is the pitch curators are under pressure to ensure the matches last 5 days for TV. Hence they play safe and provide flat tracks. You can't have situation where you play 5 days and the result is still a draw, especially in today's world of fans with a short span of a goldfish.

I know...the qualify of wickets have gone down......but as a fan...I just dont see a good cricket. I know they do it for TV...but thats why I said...that there is just so much self interest from the administrators...that the game will simply not grow. So...coming to present...I find the IPL, CL, WC T20...enjoyable (not the 1 or 2 T20 games every series though). & as I said...I will try to follow the other domestic T20 also provided they are enjoyable also. If the administrators come out of their self interest...then who knows. But the present situation is a reality. :hatsoff:

You literaly have to be a NO LIFE to watch a test match for 5DAYS. The reason I'm not a soccer fan is because after 2 damn hours, there is no garanty that someone will win. It could be a tie, or even worst: 0-0 from both side. Now take that into cricket, forget 2 hours, if you don't get a result after 5 freaking days ... that's a huge turn off for the sport itself. The other problem with test cricket is the strength level. Say for example India plays Australia, we usualy see a competitive match. But If India plays Bangladesh or West Indies, now that's a whole new story. Most of the time it's the stronger team thats just over killing the smaller teams. And the problem with this format is that only about 7 teams can actualy play competitive test, the rest of the world can't even compete properly in ODI's (leaving BD and WI out of this), so forget test cricket. This makes this format the stupidest format that ever existed in history of the sport!! ... YOu don't have to agree with me but that's just my personal OPINION.

Even if there are mismatches, there is just too many cases of draws in test matches, Test cricket along Football are the only sports that provide high probability that the end result would be a draw. People say that the recent SA-Ind Test series was a great Ad for cricket. Was it? after 15 days of cricket we still didn't know who was better!?!:wall: Maybe Test cricket should follow the elongated format of one-day cricket, each team gets two innings of 90 overs, at least that will guarantee a winner. But with no power play and "four fielder in circle", free hits rules. Just pure cricket.

But it was billed as No.1 v/s No. 2, can India conquer the pace of Saffers on SA green tops. Can Saffers bowl out the fabled batting line-up, and all these statements were made in terms of there being an eventual winner, which we didn't get! after all the ups/downs from both teams, it was a stalemate. Either rules need to be tweaked to confirm at least 95% chance of result, or allow pitch curators to produce result pitches.

thongale Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 90% of the matches will be rained out. wat else can u expect in lanka in augSL do have a DRY zone, which will be bone dry in July. Dambulla, Hambantota and Pallekele are in dry zone. Additionally Welagedara stadium in Kurunegala (in intermediate zone_ will be used as well. Colombo gets it's highest rainfall in May and then it tapers towards July. So it won't be like what we had against Windies.

I'd much rather see a stalemate of such high quality than this T20 tamasha where there's mostly mindless hitting. A Again you are giving too much emphasis to result oriented matches - just see the WI-Pak match that finished yesterday. In terms of quality there wasn't much on display but you got a result. Now what would you prefer - a match like India-SA which may end in a draw but has very high quality cricket or a match like WI-Pak where you will get a result but there's not much quality?
saneindian Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Ashwin, Munaf Patel, Praveen Kumar, Dinesh Karthik, Irfan Pathan, Manish Pandey, Manoj Tiwary, Paul Valthaty, Ravindra Jadeja, Saurabh Tiwary, Umesh Yadav and Vinay Kumar 12 Indians likely to take part in SLPL. http://www.rediff.com/cricket/report/twelve-indians-for-sri-lankan-premier-league/20110516.htm
CoverDrive Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I heard Irfan Pathan is going to play in this league - any confirmation?
thongale Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I personally hate T20. But this will help local SL players.
Sir_Afridi Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 COLOMBO: As many as 12 Indian cricketers, including the likes of Munaf Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin, are expected to feature in the first edition of the Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL) scheduled to commence from July 19. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/top-stories/12-Indians-for-Sri-Lankan-Premier-League-Report/articleshow/8364351.cms :hysterical:
