A day after UPA and its ally Trinamool Congress registered electoral victory, the Union government allowed its oil marketing companies (OMCs) a steep hike of Rs 5 a litre in petrol prices. This is the steepest-ever hike since December 2008 and a second one in the calendar year. Though petrol was officially decontrolled in June 2010, the government did not allow them to increase the prices after January this year. Successive hikes in petrol prices after decontrol had pushed up prices by almost Rs 7 till then. ViruRulez Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 The funny part is that Americans complain a lot more than we do even in case of negligible gas hike although they are paying almost half the rates of what we are paying here in India. And the value of money is a lot lesser and it sounds even more ironic.

And to add to that opposition parties are playing dirty politics and opposing the construction of India's largest mega dam and nuclear power plant etc. China on the other hand has already built the world's largest dam and is not worried about power generation. China is also launching several electric cars this year and so their dependence on oil would also reduce a lot in upcoming years. Tata is launching electric vehicle but for Norway and not for India. Hope the govt. realizes and stops these dirty politics and corruption and does things like China is doing to fix and secure the future of the nation.

Problem is those cars are out of reach for most of us .Only Rich can afford car worth above 10lakhs or more . We need such technology to get ultra cheap and to be used in Altos without making price of the car skyrocketing etc ,then it really makes sense to me .
