WI tough nuts at home: Dravid

RamPaul took 5 in the ODIs against us too. He seems a determined bowler with good pace and nice run up. Maybe not the controlled swing that great bowlers have, but still can prove lethal in helpful conditions
and ball at that pace with great ease

Dude I say ODIs are also important esp. now that we are playing with the tag of World champions. But anyhow I do not appreciate the attitude that Indian player are taking towards this tour esp. with the whole "sehwag" injury thing.
What do you want the Indian team to do? Play non-stop without a break? Or do you prefer top players miss out on the Eng series instead? And what exactly does Sehwag injury has to do with it?

^this is for another thread. I have addressed them earlier anyway. Basically "I" would have preferred a curtailed IPL or Indian players playing only partly or not playing at all. Sehwag was carrying a shoulder injury through the WC, goes for the IPL gets injured misses the WI tour and may miss England. I only have stake in Indian team

If it was off topic then you shouldn't have brought it up. You yourself brought up the topic and are now calling it "off topic" when someone calls you out on it. So how exactly are "Indian players" responsible for IPL scheduling? I would have been fine if you had called out BCCI but you specifically mentioned the "Indian players" and their attitude. So what do you expect the players to do? They are professionals like us and deserve to earn as much money as they can. Most propably you yourself would be based somewhere in US or abroad and will take shots at Indian players to make the most of their short shelf life as professional cricketers. So it's ok for you and others to move out of India for greener pastures but Indian players' "attitude" is not right if they play in IPL for millions of dollars. Or maybe you will reimburse them if they sit out of the IPL.

^You right I bought it' date=' so I end it. Btw I am not questioning their "right" to. As I said my stake is only in Indian cricket team. That is that.[/quote'] In that case blame the ppl who are the guilty party. Don't take shots at Indian team just because it's the fashionable thing to do. If IPL scheduling and FTP is the concern then players can't be blamed but BCCI. Players have every right to earn their livelihood by any legal means. As the custodian of Indian cricket it's BCCI to ensure players' well being along with good health of Indian cricket.

Basically you've got 4 good test sides India SA Eng Aus SL at home were also very strong but their bowling attack doesn't look great now. At home, their batsmen will still score runs. Then you've got the weaker teams. Pak NZ WI Bang

Rightly, and more so can't wait for the Test World Championship in 2013 in England, top four play for the right to call themselves true Cricket World Champions. It's shame it's not soon enough, as the likes of Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag, Tendulkar and Zaheer are on their last legs.

WI have enough players to build a competitive Test team (not world beating but good enough to stay at 5-6 in the rankings) for the next couple of years: Gayle, Barath, Bravo Jr, Sarwan, Shiv, Bravo Sr, Sammy, Roach, Rampaul, Bishoo, Edwards, Taylor, Simmons, Benn and Nash. Shiv will retire in that time but there's still some talent there (except the keepers who are simply dreadful). But if the wrangling between the players, coaches and board continues then they won't go anywhere. Yes, its good to win a Test match after years, even if it is against a poor team like Pakistan, but it will just be a one-off if continual disputes means clowns like Devon Smith keep playing ahead of Gayle.

That would be brilliant. Yeah, I wish that it was this year and even in 2012. I'm not sure how we'll do in 2013 since the core of our test might well have moved on.

Good post, yes on paper a good side. A Taylor/Edwards/Roach pace attack could be a good one. Bit of a fallacy having Sammy as skipper , when he is not very good. Im not sure what kind of authority he might have in that dressing room. Not sure I agree with the BCCI getting players over to India idea! They should focus on sending our own players out a bit more. The ECB do a good job with this, sending the Lions to tour WI and take part in their domestic tourno. Lions have played Duleep trohpy too. Not sure why India A does not do soemthing similar. Overseas tours for our A team seem rare.
I'm sure England domestic cricket will never make India A one of its teams to participate in the county cricket; and for other countries, the domestic season with India coincides, hence, players (of India A )would prefer to participate in their own domestic cricket instead of any other country's.
I think they do, they last one being to England last year around June. Also there is the Emerging players tournament, last two played in NZ (2009), then Austraia (2010). The problem is that these squads are usually an under 21 Indian team, rather than the next batch of best players after the India team. Though must say, Pujara was excellent in that India A tour to England in 2010. Averaged nearly over a 100 across all formats. Hope selectors stick with him for WI & Eng tour.
All the Emerging players tournament have been held in Australia only and unfortunately they are only of limited overs matches, not any FC matches. Secondly, none of the matches are being played on any of the main grounds like MCG, SCG, Gabba, Adelaide Oval, Perth. So the exposure is not of that great a value. As for last year's A tour to England, it was yet another comic one as the tour was to England but the FC matches were played between India A and WI A. And finally a tri series of one dayers were played between India A, WI A and England A. So bang in the season, England is not at all ready to release its players even for A matches. Where will the players go and play?

Dravid is speaking from past experience. India under Dravid were hammered in ODIs & barely managed to win the test series last time.
Agree with the ODI part. We were only a half decent team then, on form that is. But in the tests, although it shows only 1-0, we dominated. In two of the tests, they managed to hang onto a draw by their skin. So that barely winning the test series part is rubbish.

So what should we learn from Pakistani experience ? Probably, they are impossible to beat :giggle:

Much better than what Pakis have managed :cantstop: Btw congrats for creating history - you guys are the only ones who haven't managed to WI in WI. Even bang Bros managed it :hysterical: You know things are really bad when your team hasn't achieved something which even Bang Bros have :haha: Btw we have two series wins against WI in WI :two_thumbs_up:
