akshayxyz Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Someone (forgot who) said - lefties are more elegant players. To this, someone else ( again forgot who) - replied that one should try watching righties/lefties in a mirror. I have been thinking of trying this ever since, but did not have proper mirror setup at home. Today, I watched Gilly and Marsh's shots in gull length mirrors at my gym. And they looked like just any other right handed batsmen - all that lefty elegance gone (filtered out by mirrors!!!). Tomorrow/some other day I am going to observe some good righty in the mirror and now I am convinced that they would look as elegant as any elegant lefty.
Shane Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I was the second someone, who asked vaibhav_delhi to look at righties in the mirror, I watched Sachin from the mirror in an adjacent room, he looked a lot like Suresh Raina to me.
Ultimate_Game Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I was the second someone' date=' who asked vaibhav_delhi to look at righties in the mirror,[b'] I watched Sachin from the mirror in an adjacent room, he looked a lot like Suresh Raina to me. Tendulkar looking like Raina :omg: That's a new one for me :giggle:
ganeshran Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 For some reason Lefty players look more elegant.... As you said, watching right handed players in the mirror produces the exact same effect.
Khalpat Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I was the second someone' date=' who asked vaibhav_delhi to look at righties in the mirror, I watched Sachin from the mirror in an adjacent room, he looked a lot like Suresh Raina to me.[/quote'] Thats strange as most of the Sachin shots are technically correct, his right feet always comes to offstump when playing backfoot strokes, his head is still and while playing most of his strokes his body weight is on his heels thats completely contrast to someone like Raina whose left feet never moves, tries to play pull shot also by moving forward and his head is never still.
The Outsider Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 The reason why left handed batsmen traditionally look more elegant is that normally they have a right hand bowler bowling over the wicket which hones their off side play around the point-cover area, which looks pleasing to the eyes. Similarly a Laxman or Yousuf looks really good to watch against a left hand bowler angling the ball away, which a more technically correct batsman like Dravid or Tendulkar would leave alone.

Watch the over where Laxman scored 19 runs off Mitchell Johnson for evidence.
DomainK Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 For reference, here is Ganguly batting batting right handed - mirrored video: bSJdU2UPhlQ And here is Tendulkar batting left handed - mirrored: odkMcBRYAJw&feature=related
Holysmoke Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I think SRT looks much better as a right hander. Lefty reminds me a bit of warner :WTF:
Ultimate_Game Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I think SRT looks much better as a right hander. Lefty reminds me a bit of warner :WTF: Agreed. And I can see why someone mentioned he looks like Raina.
Chaos Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 what about bret lee... amazing action and run up. Beautiful sight even as a left armer.
gaurav92 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Yaa Sachin looks like Raina Left handed. But do raina look like Sachin right handed ? :hmmm: ?
vaibhav_delhi Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I was the second someone' date=' who asked vaibhav_delhi to look at righties in the mirror, I watched Sachin from the mirror in an adjacent room, he looked a lot like Suresh Raina to me.[/quote'] yeah, I had also mentioned that lefties look more elegant http://indiancricketfans.com/showpost.php?p=1427492&postcount=119

nospam Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I think SRT looks much better as a right hander. Lefty reminds me a bit of warner Gambhir :WTF: FTFY
Sachin=GOD Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Right Handed Goddy is much more classy than Left Handed Goddy and Left handed Ganguly is better than Right Handed.
Karan114 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I cant see any similarity to Raina :dontknow: And most definitely not at 2:52 :giggle:
akshayxyz Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 quick run through memory suggests that - most of the 'elegant/classy' lefties are on an average taller than 'classy' righty maestros. can anyone verify/counter?
