nospam Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Been a long time, it was a pain. I had to buy an external wifi adapter because it did not support my pc's wifi. Anyways have you tried insanely mac forums for your drivers?
Rajiv Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 I know its not as simple to just google, its deep in forums..I am loving the mac display with windows 7 dual boot.. seems like I have to research...but glad to see fellow enthusiast P.S Have u tried gingerbread on android so far, there are tons of custom ones..not sure which one to choose as its a hassle to set everyting again

Play Media Player where I need to isntall a Movie Jukebox , which scrapes the net for IMDB links for all my downloaded collection. The forums lingo in linux is foreign to me, can u help
akshayxyz Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 If you have good enough RAM.. Then, install your OSX on a VM. You will not have to worry about drivers as these VMs (VirtualBox, VmWare) provide the drivers for their virtual hardware. This way, you will also get time to get used to it. One of my friend uses OSX this way (on VirtualBox) w/o any problems.
akshayxyz Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 BTW - OSX (snow leopard) single user license is $29 only. Do a bit of google whether people have used official OSX on Virtual machines. If so, then go ahead, buy it and use on virtual machines - best option.

Did you install the appropriate guest-tools? With sufficient RAM on host machine (4GB is good, 8GB+ even better), these days VMs give very good performance (as a matter of fact all cloud based VPS, AWS stuff are all VMs ) These days many people use host machine only to install and work on VMs.

akshayxyz Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 If you are considering mac for some specific productivity purpose, then do not waste time and get an actual one - you will not regret. There will be a bit of learning curve though (and future expenses for buying mac s/w) However, if its just for hobby thing, then live with the inconveniences of hackintosh on PC or on VM or whatever. As for running in VM: 4GB RAM means you cant allocate more than 2GB w/o affecting host performance (in case you intend to keep switching between host/guest apps). And in such case 2GB is bare minimum to get decent performance on guest machine ( unless you are running ubuntu, or console only linux - in your VM - where even 512MB-1GB is enough). You can try 3GB to guest, and do not run any other apps but VM on host machine and work exclusively in Guest machine and do not forget to install the guest-addons, it changes the experience significantly ( close to native performance for normal usage).

You can post the link of the forums, will try to make sense of it. Linux usually has wonderful community support on IRC so most problems are solvable...

I am amazed at the incredible amount of community support for a free OS. I have started using Ubuntu recently on a new laptop and I can find solutions to any problems quite soon. But Ubuntu is still not as smooth as Windows 7 from what I have experienced till now. For an occasional computer user, Linux might be fine but Windows 7 or for that matter XP or other Windows is far better for practical extensive professional use. For server use, Linux is far better. Overall in terms of computer use, I am quite impressed and convinced by the overall OS and it is surely better for the occasional home users in India who go for pirated Windows which is far more susceptible to virus infection or security problems without the Windows updates. Infact, I am so impressed that I have decided to start a website dedicated to Ubuntu within the next few days. :giggle: Linux can be made made like Windows but a lot of customisation needs to be done. Overall surpasses my expectations by a huge margin for a completely free OS.
