If Akhtar wanted a send off game, he shouldn't have announced his retirement in the middle of the tournament and waited for Windies or the Ireland tour.

This is on top of the preferential treatment hes been getting for years. He was sacked as a captain. What exactly is unfair in that? IIRC, he was going to be sacked before the WC but he wasnt. So why not after. Is he a great captain? No. Is he a great player? No Does he deserve his place in the side? Debatable So what is the reason that he should be retained as captain esp since selectors think that misbah is a better captain. If afridi was born in any other country, he would have been sacked as a player long before 300 ODIs. Even if he had somehow survived for a long time, his continuous poor shot selection irregardless of the match situation and team requirement would have made him a pariah with the team and fans. Add to that his blatant cheating techniques and stupidity on field, would have made him the laughing stock of the team. Afridi is our Sreesanth plus the cheating. Besides, he was sacked as a captain and not as a player. He is being extremely petty to retire because he didnt get his way. As I said before I didn't like the way he has reacted to the situation.It was extremely childish and disappointing but I also hated the way PCB handled this issue especially Ijazz butt who didn't showed any maturity.They should have handled it peacefully rather dictating and making another big controversy outta nothing...I just hope somehow this lead to Butt's end and get him sacked.

As far as i know, there was no controversy made by the board. They changed the captain after the World cup. It was pretty clear to them and to many others that misbah was the better captain and they went with him. The culprit responsible for making this more than what it is, is afretard. For pak cricket to move forward, players needs to change their attitude. If a board member is good, his place is still for a very short time unlike a player who gets to be in the team for 10+ years. So having players that have a good attitude is better than a selector.

saneindian Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 I must say one thing though. It amazes me how the Pakistani team continues to do well dspite so many controversies affecting the team. We had one Greg Chappel episode and that nearly ruined the team and here the Pakistani faces that Chappel like situation every day from the board, media , senior players. To their credit, they have done well in nearly all ICC tournaments in last 4 years, drew a series away from home vs Aus and SA, won an away series in NZ, gave tough fight to England and SA in the ODI series, won the ODIs vs NZ and WI. Any other team might have completely disintegrated and reached rock bottom by now.
